Our daily newspaper serves a wide area including Columbia County, Montour County, and Luzerne County. This includes the municipalities of Bloomsburg, Danville, Berwick, Benton, Millville, Catawissa, and Elysburg.
Our Commercial Printing Division provides SNAP certified Cold Web and Heat Set offset printing services. We print millions of retail inserts, advertising supplements, weekly/monthly newspaper format products and many other printed publications every week.
Job Overview:
The Advertising Director is a senior-level executive responsible for leading and managing the sales department of the Press Enterprise daily newspaper. This position plays a critical role in driving revenue growth, developing sales strategies, and achieving sales targets. The Advertising Director oversees a team of outside and inside sales professionals, graphic designers, and sales support personnel, sets sales objectives, implements effective sales processes, develops training programs, meets with clients to discuss their marketing plans, collaborates with other Press Enterprise department heads, and forms the strategies to ensure the overall success of the sales department.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Sales Strategy and Planning
Develop and implement sales strategies, objectives, and plans in alignment with the organization's goals and market conditions.
Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify new business opportunities and stay ahead of market trends.
Set sales targets and develop action plans to achieve them, monitoring progress and making necessary adjustments when needed.
Team Leadership and Management
Build, develop, and lead a high-performing sales team, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
Set clear performance expectations, goals, and metrics for the sales team and provide regular feedback and support to ensure individual and team success.
Foster a positive culture of collaboration, motivation, and continuous improvement within the sales department, and create a pleasant environment where good work is recognized.
Sales Operations
Establish and maintain effective sales processes, policies, and systems to streamline sales operations and maximize efficiency.
Monitor and analyze sales data, metrics, and reports to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary, while keeping leadership informed in positive or negative changes in trends and outlook.
Work closely with other department heads to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of sales efforts with overall company objectives.
Customer Relationship Management
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients and business partners, acting as a trusted advisor and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Develop marketing strategies and create compelling sales collateral, presentations, and proposals that effectively communicate the value proposition of Press Enterprise products or services.
Stay updated on industry trends, customer needs, and competitor activities to identify potential business opportunities and adjust sales strategies accordingly.
Sales Performance and Reporting
Utilize the SCS Advertising system to monitor sales performance against prior year and target goals, providing sales reports and analysis to leadership.
Conduct periodic reviews and evaluations of sales team members, recognizing top performers and addressing any performance gaps through training and development initiatives.
Continuously evaluate and improve sales processes, tools, and techniques to optimize sales effectiveness and efficiency.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor's degree in advertising, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience in the industry.
Proven track record of success in leadership positions, with a deep appreciation for the role that newspapers play in our communities, and a thorough understanding of the positive impact that marketing through Press Enterprise products can have for a business.
This is a full-time onsite position. Salary plus commission and incentives for reaching goals. We offer health insurance, 401K, and paid time off. Email
