Design Director – Power Management IC (PMIC)Looking for a highly experienced Design Director to join the 2.6B$ Power Business Unit where the candidate will work on state-of-the-art PMIC products that complement Renesas’s offering of MCUs, MPUs, and SOCs in both Automotive and Industrial areas. This is an early-stage growth opportunity where the candidate will build and directly influence the future roadmap of PMIC products.Responsibilities
Manage the design team achieving best in class power, performance, and area while meeting or beating schedule.Mentor direct reports, giving appropriate guidance and support while being responsible for performance reviews.Conduct appraisals, make remuneration decisions, and proactively manage performance driving development of the team.Delegate project tasks appropriately, ensuring required methodologies and procedures are followed.Represent team and input into corporate engineering processes and methodology improvement discussions.Communicate company and team goals and ensure all team members identify the relationship between company strategy and their contribution.Collaborate with the VP of Engineering to drive recruitment strategy and take responsibility for direct hiring within the team.Drive resource planning, making recommendations to the VP of Engineering.Make significant contributions to Renesas’s Analog and Digital Design strategy, through representation at group management meetings, customer reviews, and cross-site initiatives.Keep abreast of industry developments, driving continual improvements within the team through effective change management.Provide support and guidance to technical project leads to ensure successful project execution.Responsible for continual personal and professional development for all team members.Oversee pre-production process flow is followed by the group for own projects, ensuring outcomes are of high quality.Ensure the entire team follows procedures and design practices that are required by internal guidelines as well as expected from any state-of-the-art technology leader in the industry.Manage analog input into RFQ process.Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with 15-20 years of relevant industry experience.Expertise in power topologies, including buck, boost, buck-boost, charge pumps, and LDOs.In-depth knowledge of control architectures such as voltage mode, current mode, and hysteretic mode, applicable to DC/DC converters, LED drivers, and LDOs.Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics, including device safe-operating areas (SOA) and power transistors used in high-frequency switching.Expertise in Analog IC circuit design as it relates to power conversion architectures, design tools, and methodologies. Experience with circuit blocks including bandgap references, op amps, OTAs, bias circuits, comparators, oscillators, DACs, ADCs, level shifters, switching power stages, LDOs, charge pumps, and glue logic.Full project lifecycle management, from concept and chip architecture to specification writing, process technology selection, die size estimation, schedule management, IC design, layout supervision, verification (DRC, LVS, LVL), and fabrication. Experience in bench correlation, corner lot characterization, hands-on lab evaluation, production release, yield improvement, and failure analysis support.Knowledge of board-level considerations, including component selection, PCB layout, packaging technologies, and thermal analysis.Familiarity with IC process technologies, reliability design rules, ESD, and latch-up testing.Understanding of industry standards and practices in relevant technologies.Design management experience, with multi-functional team leadership preferred.Additional Information
