The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. The college benefits pets and their owners, food-producing animals, and wildlife by offering the highest quality hospital and diagnostic laboratory services. Equipped with the most technologically advanced facilities located on a university campus, the college is dedicated to safeguarding public health by studying emerging infectious diseases that affect both animal and human health.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing leadership in the articulation of the critical role of private philanthropy to the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). This position is charged with maintaining a major gift portfolio for financial gifts of $25,000 and greater through the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship programming. This position is "high touch" which necessitates in-person communication with donors and potential donors, attendance at appropriate conferences and events, and frequent local and regional travel.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Experience in successful major gift solicitations and demonstrated experience in developing and successfully implementing fundraising plans for major initiatives. The ideal incumbent will exhibit strong self-initiative; exceptional attention to detail and organization; professionalism; emotional intelligence; and well-developed listening skills. Additionally, employee will need be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion and will need to be willing to be a part of the larger development efforts of the University of Georgia. Employee will need to be able to travel in and out-of-state, have flexibility to work some nights and weekends. Word processing; database management; email skills are important.

Plans, coordinates, and implements strategies to identify major gift prospects through prospecting.Conducts extensive outreach via email and phone calls to secure in-person meetings with prospects and donors to qualify them as a major gift donors.Interactions recorded in databaseFace-to-face meetings (minimum of 144 meetings per year)Qualification of major gift prospectsMajor gift solicitationsCollaborations with DAR colleaguesDevelopment of prospect portfolioHosting donors and prospects for CVM tours, events, conferences and other functionsDevelopment and management of internal relationships with key faculty and staff to further development efforts with donors and prospectsOther tasks and responsibilities within the purpose and scope major gift fundraisingPerforms all work requirements according to UGA, UGA Foundation, and CVM policies and procedures.
