SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing psychiatric services for Mental Health (MH) and Substance Abuse (SUD) patients. Provides Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) / Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) to patients with opioid use disorder who can benefit from pharmacological intervention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Perform initial assessment of referred and enrolled patients.

2. Provide ongoing care patients' medical, physical, and psychosocial screening.

3. Evaluate health and wellness of referred patients.

4. Perform mental status examinations, evaluate patients' emotional, behavioral and mental state through discussion, observation and clinical and behavioral analysis.

5. Identify mental and substance abuse disorders and determine the best treatment plan forward.

6. Recommend therapy plans for behavioral health patients.

7. Prescribe medications based on clinical assessment and expertise.

8. Prescribe Medication Assisted Treatment for patients as appropriate.

9. Analyze medical tests and track patients' progress.

10. Coordinate with healthcare professionals when hospitalization is required.

11. Advise patients on how to cope with mental illness and emotional challenges.

12. Provide support and coping and intervention related recommendations to patients' loved ones.

13. Refer internally to ARMS' primary care and therapeutic providers.

14. Provide clinical guidance and expertise to mid-level practitioners, if applicable.

15. Research medical issues and new medical treatments to increase your knowledge on mental healthcare and substance abuse disorders.

16. Meet with Chief Medical Officer and Clinical Director as requested.

17. Attend departmental meetings and organizational-wide town hall meetings as requested.

18. Additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

Alabama MD or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine License

Certification from the American Board of Medical Specialists (ABMS)

Residency program in Psychiatry

Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible

Current MAT and MOUD Certification

Three or more years of clinical, hospital or private practice experience, preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

In-depth knowledge of various psychotherapeutic methods and medications

Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain medical terms and conditions to a non-medical audience

Strong clinical observation skills to accurately evaluate patients' demeanor and identify symptoms.

Great bedside manner and the ability to remain calm, empathetic and patient while interacting with patients who suffer from severe mental disorders
