SCOPE OF POSITION:
Assists in the maintenance of Waterbury Hospital's general ledger and various subsidiaries' general ledgers to ensure the integrity of financial data. Responsibilities involve daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly monitoring of assigned accounts and keeping work-papers and files current. General areas of involvement include daily bank account activity processing, journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis of balance sheets and income statements for multiple Waterbury Health entities, as well as audits as they arise. This position reports to the Director of Accounting.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare journal entries as assigned. Prepare monthly account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts as assigned in accordance with the workpaper completion schedule. Perform cash management activity as assigned (including daily downloads of bank account activities and uploads into general ledger). Assist in reconciling intercompany due to/from accounts. Prepare expense analysis including variance analysis of accounts and income statement categories as assigned. Prepare Waterbury Health Network work-papers, financial statements, account analysis, variance analysis, etc. Utilize lease amortization schedules for JEs, monthly schedules and year-end reporting. Perform assigned responsibilities relative to month-end general ledger closing process. Participation in year-end audit as well as other audits as they arise. Run system reports and utilize Excel to assist in analyzing data (i.e. AP aging, receipts accruals, etc.) Prepare property tax declarations for the hospital as well as affiliates. Assist with grant reporting. Responsible for community benefits reporting. Responsible for keeping the Director of Accounting and the other members of the Accounting Team apprised of all items and events of a material nature in a timely manner to allow adequate time for them to respond. Perform other duties as required or as requested. REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in accounting required. Minimum 2-5 years accounting experience (preferably in a hospital or healthcare environment). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong Excel skills (including macros, v-lookups and pivot tables) Utilize computer skills in order to access and use Healthstream to complete mandatory training; to access e-mail notices; and to access and use the Hospital Intranet to bid on and/or apply for open positions. Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility. Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks within established timeframes. Working knowledge of and experience in complying with GAAP, FASB, etc. Strong analytical and interpretive skills. Ability to work independently in handling projects and meeting crucial deadlines. Ability to relate well, to communicate effectively, and interact internally and externally with all levels of management. Perform automated functions that fall within the job responsibilities.
