The Corporate Food Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and executing food safety programs across multiple plants. This role involves creating and supporting corporate Quality, Food Safety, and compliance programs, monitoring food safety KPIs, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with standards such as cGMPs, GFSI, FSMA, and HACCP. The manager will also lead food safety investigations, manage food safety specialists, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and execute food safety programs across multiple plants.
Create and support corporate Quality, Food Safety, and compliance programs.
Monitor and trend food safety KPIs to ensure compliance and process effectiveness.
Conduct food safety risk assessments, change management, and trial requests for products, raw materials, and packaging.
Oversee food safety technical and compliance programs to ensure compliance with cGMPS, GFSI, FSMA, and HACCP standards.
Create, maintain, update, evaluate, and audit all food safety programs and policies.
Conduct continuous research on food safety issues and communicate findings to cross-functional partners and internal teams.
Develop mitigation strategies for risks related to chemical contaminants, foreign materials, microbiological, and allergens.
Serve as the expert and point of contact for leading food safety investigations.
Work cross-functionally to address and mitigate food safety risks.
Lead annual food safety factory walks to identify areas for improvement.
Develop, implement, review, and maintain GFSI standards, including FSMA regulations.
Manage food safety specialists by providing coaching, performance reviews, and development programs.
Support factories with preventative approaches, continuous improvement, and implementation of mitigation strategies.
Hold monthly meetings with facility quality managers to evaluate and discuss food safety KPI trends and industry trends.
Assess new vendors and suppliers for food safety compliance.
Essential Skills
Experience with risk assessment, food safety programs, HACCP, PCQI, GFSI, audit, process validation, allergens, chemical contaminants, and microbiology.
5+ years of experience in a food manufacturing and food safety role.
Experience with managing, developing, and executing food safety programs.
Knowledge of food safety risk assessment, including microbiological, allergens, and foreign materials.
Bachelor's degree in biology or microbiology.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with leading a team is a plus, including supervisory or lead roles.
Knowledge of FSSC22000 standards.
Exposure to both corporate and plant food safety processes.
Technical understanding of microbiological and biological processes.
Experience in high-risk industries such as dairy or ice cream is a plus.
Work Environment
The Corporate Food Safety Manager will oversee 1-2 direct reports (food safety specialists). The role involves domestic or international travel to various sites to develop and implement food safety programs. Travel preferences will be determined in coordination with other food safety managers.
