Description
$5,000 sign-on bonus if you are an external applicant and certified in sterile processing.
$3,000 sign-on bonus for an external applicant that is non-certified but has a minimum of 6 months experience.
Position SummaryThe Sterile Processing Technician – Certified role is responsible for receiving, sorting, decontaminating, reassembling, packaging, sterilizing, storing and distributing reusable patient care equipment, instrument trays and supplies.Essential FunctionsPerforms decontamination procedurePrepares reusable patient care items for sterilizationSterilization using appropriate sterilization methodsPicks surgical case carts, stores and distribute reusable patient care equipment, instrument trays and suppliesParticipates as a productive member of the O.R. processing teamMaintains positive relationships with patients, customers, and co-workersParticipates as a productive member of the perioperative process team
Required For All JobsPerforms other duties as assigned.Complies with all policies and standards.For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a Sterile Processing program preferred.
Work ExperiencePrevious hospital central service instrument decontamination and chemical, assembly, inventory or distribution experience preferred. Preferred
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesBasic medical terminology. PreferredSteam, EtO, Plasma, Peracetic Acid, Dry Heat, and liquid sterilants. RequiredKnowledge of: Equipment, sterilizers, washers, instruments, and tray assembly. RequiredGood manual dexterity. RequiredAttention to details. Required
Additional Licenses and CertificationsNational or International Sterile Processing Technician Certification through CBSPD or IAHCSMM. Required within 2 years of hire
