PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Manager, Consumer Loan Policy & Risk Analytics at our Tysons, Virginia location.
The primary function of this job is to manage end-to-end development and implementation of Consumer Loan acquisition credit strategy/policy and conducting ongoing credit risk/program profitability monitoring and analytics. This role plays a critical role in enhancing credit risk strategy and management ecosystem to enable sustainable and resilient Consumer Loan business growth. This position will also contribute to setting up strategic vision/agenda, promoting strong risk culture and managing analysts to achieve team’s strategic goal. The incumbent will partner closely with Consumer Loan product teams and other key stakeholders within Consumer Banking as well as enterprise.
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of consumer loan credit risk fundamentals, strong analytical skills, and the ability to adapt to shifts in the lending environment. You’re an excellent communicator, comfortable working collaboratively with multiple teams, and able to contribute insights that support data-driven decisions. Credit Policy Execution and Support
Assist in implementing credit policies and underwriting criteria for new consumer loan acquisitions, including supporting approve/decline criteria, loan assignments, income verification, and decisioning.
Support the development and application of risk tolerance limits and decision constraints to align with established credit policies and strategies.
Collaborate with product owners to execute targeted credit strategies that support business growth and align with established credit guidelines.
Risk Monitoring and Portfolio Analysis
Conduct ongoing credit quality monitoring and performance analysis to support risk mitigation and portfolio health for consumer loans.
Prepare and contribute reports on credit risk, emerging trends, and portfolio performance for management, providing data-driven insights on loan loss allowances.
Utilize bureau sandbox data to assist in refining credit strategies and supporting policy enhancements.
Pricing and Economic Support
Partner with other teams to support risk segmentation and loss expectations that inform risk-adjusted pricing, aligning with overarching risk management frameworks.
Assist in monitoring and analyzing economic and regulatory changes that may impact credit risk and pricing strategy.
Collaboration and Compliance Support
Collaborate with teams across Decision Science, Product, Compliance, Operations, and Finance to support profitable growth initiatives, minimizing credit exposure in line with established policies.
Participate in internal audits and regulatory reviews, providing necessary documentation and insights as needed.
Project and Ad-Hoc Analysis Assistance
Contribute to ad-hoc analyses and projects to support risk management decisions, enhance efficiencies, and improve member experience.
Qualifications
An equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
Bachelor’s degree in business, Economics, Engineering, Quantitative Discipline or Equivalent, Finance is required. MBA or master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in credit risk policy & analysis, credit risk management or modeling in financial services industry.
Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory / assistant manager experience.
Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
Proven project management skills, ability to manage multiple projects.
Strong skills in various data analysis and visualization tools including SQL, Excel, and PowerPoint are required. Tableau experience preferred.
Proficiency with statistical tools (Python) is strongly preferred.
Experience with Direct Auto and/or Personal Loan lending is strongly preferred.
Experience in building support to gain acceptance and buy-in on credit decisions in a collaborative environment.
Ability to provide business leadership and partnering skills to help drive the organization towards critical decisions and deliverable results.
Initiative-taking and strong people skills to actively lead and implement ideas in a cross-functional team environment.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position will directly supervise employees.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.
Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.
Travel
The ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
