AWS is looking for a self-motivated and experienced public relations professional to drive awareness around the positive work AWS does supporting governments and defense focused organizations.

The right candidate possesses strong media relations and PR experience, is an expert at translating complex technology concepts into concise and well-written narratives, has significant experience supporting customers in the defense industry, and has a demonstrated ability in working on cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate enjoys diving deep into technology, understanding how it is shaping and redefining the world we live in and engaging top tier business, inside-the-beltway, and technology media. They are motivated by a dynamic, highly creative culture where the challenge of breaking new ground and redefining best practices is welcome. In this role, the candidate will have the ability to work alongside a variety of internal teams and also support AWS customers. The candidate must have excellent writing skills, have experience driving proactive campaigns and have a track record of utilizing good judgement in high pressure situations.

This role will be based in the greater Washington, D.C area and may require periodic travel.

Key job responsibilities

The Senior Manager, Public Sector Communications will:

Work closely with AWS Public Sector Customers to help them tell their stories about success with AWS, and how cloud technology is helping them innovate and increase mission success

Provide communications counsel to business leaders

Work alongside colleagues around the world to share best practices and execute global campaigns

Work cross-functionally to plan and execute communications campaigns

Develop communications plans to support the development and execution of events and media engagements

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field

10+ years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or public affairs focused on the defense, national security, and government landscape

Current experience managing media relationships and a network of government-focused media contacts

Business to Government and Business to Business experience, including exposure to government procurement and acquisition

Experience working in the field of cloud computing, cybersecurity and technology

Preferred Qualifications

An entrepreneurial spirit, including ability to work independently and autonomously

Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and organizational skills, while also staying on top of tactical execution

Outstanding attention to detail, understanding of technology, and ability to communicate complex topics effectively

Experience working with and understanding public policy issues, and partnering with third-party organizations that focus on defense and national security

Passionate about excellence in writing and verbal communications

Thrives in a collaborative environment and is willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done

Strong judgement, a knack for diplomacy, and the confidence to engage and build consensus with functional leaders at all levels
