JOB GOAL
Responsible for the coordination and monitoring of fifteen to twenty bus drivers and school buses, to include: receiving instructions and guidance as well as relaying critical information concerning driver and equipment status.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Direct contact with assigned bus drivers involving the transmission of department information, daily instruction, and monitoring of performance via verbal feedback.Communicates with school administration and parents concerning problems and concerns regarding transportation at the school, may also distribute reports and other communications to the schools as requested.Assists the transportation operations technician and quality support technician (OT/QST) while in the transportation office.Assists the OT and area manager with the notification of substitute drivers.Monitors AM and PM runs to ensure that each assigned bus is occupied, notifying the OT and area manager if a driver does not report to work on time or at all.Drives any route necessary in the absence of a permanent or substitute driver, in the absence of available regular drivers, for field trips, or other extracurricular trips.Knows the routes of the assigned drivers and ensures that each bus has appropriate paperwork at all times.Assists in the development of runs for assigned buses to ensure proper sequencing of stops, run directions, and compliance with the transportation information management system (TIMS) to provide appropriate service students.Routinely rides with assigned drives as check for route operation and suitability.Monitors and evaluates the assigned drivers' pre and post trip inspections, bus cleanings, and parking.Reports unsafe conditions or mechanical problems with buses to the area manager and/or garage maintenance staff.Assists in the investigation and resolution of transportation service request forms.Provides guidance and problem resolution for customers with information regarding procedures and forms who have contacted the area transportation office.Assists the area manager in developing and presenting training, safety meetings, and related operational instruction to enhance the assigned drivers' professional development and customer service skills.Distributes and reviews any written or verbal information and instructions to the assigned bus drivers, as needed.Conducts follow-up road training with drivers prior to a permanent bus assignment.Delivers buses to the maintenance areas as needed.Performs other related duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Direct supervision of assigned personnel. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; assisting with training employees; evaluating performance; and interviewing, testing, hiring, and assignment of personnel.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalentMaintains an acceptable driving record as outlined by North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles as legal requirements for issuance of a school bus driver certificationPossesses a CDL with School Bus CertificationMinimum two years as a School Bus DriverMust not have conditions of a criminal nature which would cause disqualification.Ability to organize and manage peopleOR
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the positionCertificates, Licenses & Registrations
Possess before receiving a bus route, a valid Class B commercial driver's license and a valid school bus driver certification issued by the NCDMV.Commercial driver license (CDL) holders and applicants must meet the medical qualifications set by the NC General Statute Medical Qualifications Standards Applicable to Commercial Drivers.First aid certification preferred.Preferred qualifications
