Best Company.Job SummaryThe Underwriter in our Manufacturers and Contractors Division will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing underwriting data in order to determine if risks meet corporate underwriting standards calculate appropriate premium and determine proper terms for acceptable risks and respond to brokers when risks do not meet underwriting guidelines. Underwriters are also responsible for developing and maintaining profitable business relationships with brokers.Duties and ResponsibilitiesContinuously exhibit and uphold Core Values of Integrity, Accountability, Communication and Teamwork, Innovation and Customer ServiceAnalyze new business opportunities and develop renewal strategiesAttain quote, premium and division goals as assignedDevelop and maintain strong relationships with brokersUse critical thinking and problem solving skills to negotiate with brokers on placementsTravel to meet with brokers within assigned territory at least three times per yearOther duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to effectively and properly select, evaluate, model, determine coverage, rate, document, quote and bind accountsAbility to effectively assess riskExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work independently or in a team environment to complete assignments within the parameters of instructions given, prescribed processes and standard accepted underwriting practicesSolid knowledge of underwriting philosophy and techniquesProven problem solving and decision making skillsStrong negotiation skillsAbility to multi-taskHigh level of initiative and motivationStrong work ethic with a drive to succeedSolid customer service and relationship building skillsProficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet researching

Experience and EducationAssociate UnderwriterBachelors Degree or a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experienceIndustry associated classes or courses preferred

UnderwriterBachelors Degree or equivalent work experienceMinimum of 2 years of related underwriting experience preferably in Excess and Surplus linesPreferably pursuing courses toward professional designations or continuing education.

Senior UnderwriterBachelor's degree or equivalent work experienceMinimum of 5 years underwriting experience, preferably in Excess and Surplus lines

Professional designation is preferred

Underwriting Specialist15+ years industry experience, 10+ years in Excess and Surplus lines with specialized coverage and product knowledgeBachelor's Degree or equivalent work experienceSpecific experience in marketing and underwriting of the division related products

Professional designation is preferred

Executive Underwriter20+ years industry experience, 15+ years in Excess and Surplus lines with specialized coverage and product knowledgeBachelor's Degree or equivalent work experienceSpecific experience in marketing and underwriting of the division related products

Professional designation is preferred
