University of Waikato – Hamilton, North IslandWe are seeking an exceptional leader for our Division of Management who will have responsibility for the Waikato Management School as the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Management. They will also contribute to the strategic leadership of the University as a whole.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) is the senior strategic and academic leader of the Division, responsible for shaping its intellectual, professional, and operational culture and direction for the effective creation and stewardship of its resources. The PVC places paramount importance on the interests and reputation of the University as a whole, promoting these through leadership of the Division. They will lead programme developments to increase student numbers, continue to enhance the quality of teaching and research in the Division, and increase the visibility, engagement, and impact of the Division with the New Zealand business community.
The Waikato Management School has held Triple Crown Accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA) since 2006 – an international benchmark of excellence in business education that puts us in an elite group comprised of the top 1% of all business schools globally. It also attracts outstanding domestic and international students and benefits from the support of alumni who have been successful in a wide range of careers.
In 2024, the Waikato Management School hosted 1,500 domestic equivalent full-time students (EFTS), 709 international EFTS, and 555 EFTS who studied at the Waikato Management School from offshore. With new programmes set to be introduced in 2025 and beyond, the Division provides an exciting offering to prospective students.
The significance of the PVC role is demonstrated by the appointee being a member of the University’s executive leadership group and reporting to the Vice-Chancellor.
To succeed in this role, you will need proven people and operational leadership at scale. Demonstrated ability to articulate a vision, lead change in a complex environment, and develop innovative strategies is essential. Large-scale budget management experience and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also required. You must also be able to demonstrate the capacity to provide leadership that respects the diversity of approaches in the different disciplines making up the Management School and integrates academic teaching and research with contributions to understanding the critical issues facing organisations today. Whilst a PhD is not a prerequisite for this role, it is highly desirable.
