Director of Leadership Giving
supports The Museum of Flight by developing and leading strategies to solicit, cultivate, and steward leadership gifts by individuals, foundations, and corporations. This role creates overall giving strategies that result in significant growth of leadership, major, and planned gifts. Beyond gifts, such strategies include plans to ensure donors are inspired and engaged in supporting the Museum’s mission. The Director collaborates closely with the VP of Development and department leadership to create and execute ongoing comprehensive fundraising strategies that support the institution’s mission, vision, goals, financial sustainability, and multi-year campaigns. This position is responsible for leading major, corporate, foundation, government, and planned gifts fundraising teams. As a member of the Museum’s leadership team, this position champions a culture of philanthropy among Museum colleagues, the Board of Trustees, and donors.

Partner closely with the Museum’s CEO and VP of Development to develop and execute strategies to solicit and cultivate gifts of $1 million or more over five years – during multi-year campaigns and ongoing fundraising.
Supervisory oversight of the department’s Major Gifts, Planned Giving, and Institutional Giving staff.
Work with the executive and senior leadership teams to develop ambitious Museum revenue targets and implement plans to meet these goals.
Establish, track, and report on annual and campaign fundraising plans and proactively forecast shifts in revenue expectations.
Conduct analyses and assess performance to identify opportunities and inform annual and campaign plans.
Guide and develop near and long-term goals and strategies for the Museum’s Planned Giving Program.
Develop goals and strategies for Institutional Giving, foundation and corporate cultivation, approaches, submission tactics, and content of requests. Monitor and report on Institutional Giving performance and outcomes.
Develop and tailor compelling multi-year campaign requests and proposals for leadership donors.
Create stewardship opportunities that align institutional policy and culture with donors’ wishes and intentions.
Lead the creation of gift agreements between donors and the Museum that are well understood, honor a donor’s purpose, clarify specifics, and outline terms of recognition.
Collaborate with Museum colleagues to advance prospects towards solicitation and continually replenish the major donor pipeline.
Work closely with Director of Individual Giving and Director of Development Operations to align goals, strategy, and appropriate assignment of prospective and current donors.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit administration, or public administration and/or other relevant degree required. A combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Ten (10) years of nonprofit development experience, external donor relationship management, strategy, solicitation, stewardship. Constituent and relationship-management experience, especially with governing boards is required.
Five (5) years of experience building and leading high-performing fundraising teams in non-profit, museum, educational, or community-based organizations.
Strong track record in developing and implementing strategies in leadership giving.
Knowledge
Deep knowledge of donor engagement and relationships including contemporary fundraising practices and development strategies with diverse constituent populations.
Proficient knowledge of data analytics, metrics, and Key Performance Indicators.
Skills
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong strategic thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Computer proficiency in fundraising software and donor management systems such as Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM and fundraising software.
Demonstrated commitment to ethical fundraising practices and donor stewardship.

Paid-Time OffOur paid time-off plans include 2 weeks of accrued sick (80 hours) leave and 4 weeks of vacation (160 hours) per year, 10 paid holidays, and 2 floating holidays.
CompensationThe salary range for this position is $95,000.00 - $152,000.00 depending on experience.
