Legal Operations Manager - Assigned Counsel

Why It's a Great Department:The Department of Assigned Counsel (DAC) is responsible for the delivery of mandated legal services to indigent persons accused of crimes in the Pierce County Superior Court; Pierce County District Courts; Municipal Courts in Tacoma, Fircrest, and Ruston; and Pierce County Juvenile Court proceedings. DAC also provides constitutionally mandated legal services to indigent parents involved in Juvenile Court dependency and termination proceedings and to persons detained for involuntary civil commitment proceedings at Western State Hospital and other evaluation and treatment facilities.
The mission of the Department of Assigned Counsel is to provide and administer the public defense delivery system in Pierce County in a manner that assures eligible people receive professional and effective representation while efficiently utilizing public resources. The Department of Assigned Counsel provides professional high-quality representation to individuals in a variety of settings.

Core Daily Responsibilities:Supervise all business functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash handling, purchasing, and audits.Serve as a member of Assigned Counsel’s leadership team. Participate in the development and implementation of overall departmental objectives and long-range goals. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.Investigate grievances involving subordinates and recommend resolution, participate in hiring, training, and promotion, oversee employee development programs, approve leave requests and overtime; and provide adequate coverage during staff absences.Responsible for the preparation and presentation of the budget and its subsequent cost control and monitoring; determine priorities on budget items, develop alternatives, and provide fiscal analysis.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAdditional education or experience may substitute equally for the position requirements.Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in business, public administration, accounting or a related field.Plus four or more years of experience in an administrative position requiring budgetary, personnel, and supervisory skills.Preferred QualificationsA substantive cover letter attached with the application materials.As a condition of employment, the applicant will need to authorize and complete a background check.
