Community Education Coordinator
is one member of a team that runs the afterschool program at the
Tierney Learning Center (TLC) . This includes planning and implementing classroom curriculum, providing homework assistance, communicating information to families, and maintaining a safe, healthy, warm, engaging, and attractive environment.The Educational Programs Coordinator will serve as a liaison between the school day teacher and parent to support the academic and social emotional success of the students in their classroom. Age-appropriate activities should provide for growth in cognitive skills, self-awareness, peer relationships, and character development.In addition, the Community Education Coordinator will have a special area of focus to support the growth and development of the TLC and the youth served.The Coordinator in this role will focus on building the
teen program
by developing and implementing new programs in collaboration with the teens. They will identify strategies and partners to bridge high school graduates to college, training, and jobs.Work Schedule:Regular Hours - Monday thru Friday from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM.Summer Hours - Monday thru Friday from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (during the months of July/August)Essential Functions of the PositionBuild relationships of trust with kids, parents, and families to engage them in positive youth development opportunities at the TLC.Implement program curricula that provide growth in cognitive skills, self-awareness, group relationships, and character development.Ensure adherence to EEC licensing standards and perpetuate an inclusive culture and maintain a program environment that is safe, healthy, and engaging.Communicate information to parents.Assist with relevant assessments on various levels throughout the year through progress reports, parent surveys, and program self-assessment.Collaborate with the TLC team, Old Colony staff, and YMCA staff and attend weekly meetings as required.Minimum QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Experience working with youth and families and issues relating to workforce development, youth enrichment, education, and asset building.Experience working with teens and developing programs in collaboration with teens. Ability to build positive and collaborative partnerships with youth and adults. Mediation and conflict resolution skills a plus.Sophisticated understanding of positive youth development approaches, community engagement strategies, and youth issues.Knowledge of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), trauma-informed approaches, mental health, and de-escalation.Ability to understand and respect values, attitudes, and beliefs that differ across cultures and to respond appropriately to these differences with residents in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services.Capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including but not limited to, residents, senior staff, volunteers, interns, and community partners.Ability to collect, track, and understand data to assess programs and partnerships and inform strategies.Proficiency with technology and an interest in learning how to integrate new technology-based tools and resources into programming.Operate in a timely manner, with consistency and a high level of integrity and professionalism; provide excellent customer service to residents and partners.Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and writing skills.Proficiency with MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and other computer programs.Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies affecting housing is a plus.Education & Experience:Bachelor’s degree with a focus in social work, human services, public health, or community development and/or 3-5 years’ equivalent work experience providing services in a Housing/Multi-Family housing environment, or a private, non-profit social service organization serving youth and families.Experience working with youth in urban communities and developing and operating youth programs.Must become EEC licensed to work with children.** $3,500 sign-on bonus is for new hires only. $1,166.00 payable with first paycheck. $2,334.00 payable after first 90 days.Benefits Offered:At the core of Beacon Communities is the talent on our teams, and we are committed to taking care of our team members so they can deliver great experiences to our residents.
