Summary:
Responsible for establishing and maintaining company design standards for roof & floor trusses and wall panels, ensuring compliance with building codes across all TBC markets. Works closely with VP of Manufacturing to align design activities with business plans and strategies. Manages a team of truss designers and estimators to meet client and operational needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Manages associates in the design department, including:
Coordinating and delegating work assignments
Monitoring performances
Overseeing daily work commitments and projects
Ensuring compliance with company standards for quality and quantity of work produced.
Manages and participates in training and coaching associates in proper work methods, processes, and procedures. May participate in human resources activities such as interviewing, hiring, terminating, and conducting performance evaluations.
Provides technical knowledge and assistance to all clients, including company sales associates, contractors, and the public, in identifying and resolving design, material, and procedural issues, and resolving quality concerns.
Ensures associates perform accurate and professional material takeoffs using client blueprints, resulting in zero shrinkage. Monitors cutting lists, production reports, and delivery schedules. Ensures bids, materials, and price lists are accurate and delivered in a timely manner. May participate in visiting work sites to deliver bids, takeoffs, and encourage additional business.
Develops and maintains relationships with clients, ensuring quality client service through continuous personal interaction. Responds to clients’ needs and concerns and trains associates in quality client services and problem resolution.
Coordinates with the VP of Manufacturing on pricing strategies for different business segments. Provides various tracking and project status reports to the General Manager and other managerial associates.
Attends and participates in all company-sponsored training programs as required.
Performs any other duties, responsibilities, or tasks as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has direct reports with truss designers and lumber takeoff estimators throughout the company. May carry out quasi-supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing applicants, providing input into hiring decisions, training designers, providing feedback on performance of design groups, addressing complaints, and solving problems related to design.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Proficient in design standards and compliance.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Technical expertise in design principles and material selection.
Familiarity with project management and budgeting.
Competency in CAD software and design tools.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Leadership experience in construction or design.
Certifications in architectural design or project management.
Knowledge of sustainable design principles.
Proficiency in collaboration tools for remote team management.
