KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools seeks Assistant Principal (AP) to add capacity to our team. The AP serves as a teacher coach and a school-based administrator. They are responsible for observing and providing feedback to teachers and reinforcing positive school culture aligned with their school leader’s vision.

An AP helps set team culture for the teachers they manage, as part of the school’s larger vision, and ideal candidates can articulate commitments for social justice and educational equity for all students that mirror the region’s vision and goals.

As a school-based administrator, this position is year-round and performs duties as assigned by their school leader. Typical hours for school-based leaders are 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 Monday through Friday and there may be occasional meetings, special school events, or commitments that fall outside of these hours..

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Facilitate a culture of constant learning and collaboration with students, instructional staff, families, and community members

Based on school-wide academic goals, instructional priorities and individual development goals, lead staff members to achieve high performances through goal setting and evaluation, as well as, coaching and feedback

Serve as a key member of the school leadership team, representing the school to a variety of audiences and supporting all necessary functions for school management and success

Orient staff members to the teaching environment at KIPP Jacksonville, especially as it relates to the area of student personnel policy and procedures, general school practices and routines, and KIPP Jacksonville’s vision, values, beliefs and non-negotiables.

Advise, support, celebrate, and mentor individual teachers to improve instruction through:

Consistent classroom observation and feedback/coaching

Facilitating curriculum planning and evaluating unit and lesson plans

Promoting continuous, high-quality assessment as a means for evaluating student achievement

Collaborating with the School Leader and members of the leadership team to implement, evaluate and refine a comprehensive professional development program for teachers

Leading staff members to set and achieve audacious individual, classroom, and grade-level goals

Lead teacher and staff evaluations quarterly

In coordination with the leadership team, evaluate school performance data to make holistic and individual recommendations for improving instructional practices

Work with school leadership, counselor and teachers to enhance and refine the rituals, systems and practices that shape our school culture and guide students struggling with behavior choices

Guide and promote character development of students through deliberate programming practices and by coaching teachers in developing stronger relationships with students

Work with teachers and counselors to develop innovative strategies, preventative approaches, and proactive plans for students who exhibit at-risk behaviors

Provide support for teachers with students who need additional behavior assistance

Model, promote, and coach others toward effective communication with parents so that KIPP families fully engage in the education of their student and in KIPP Jacksonville’s mission

Work with teachers and students so that in all ways, we leave places, people and ideas better than we found them

Work in conjunction with the school leader and the leadership team to supervise all school activities i.e., dances, concerts, orientation programs, plays, musicals, field trips, and other special events

Perform other duties as may be assigned by the school leader

CURRENT MODEL

Assistant Principals will typically coach teachers in a specific content area, team, or grade level range. APs are considered “regional” employees and can be transferred between KIPP Jacksonville schools as needed. This position would be placed at one specific K-8 school OR 9-12 initially.

COMPENSATION

The starting salary for this position is $62,000.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree

At least four (4) years of teaching experience with a track record of high achievement

Previous experience and demonstrated ability to coach classroom teachers to high student achievement results

Experience teaching or leading in an urban, Title I public school or charter setting

Possesses a deep commitment to both racial and educational equity; supports the building of an organization that reflects the community KIPP serves; holds self and others on team accountable for centering equity.

Florida Teacher certification or equivalent in core content area

Passing a background check, as required by law

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with Florida’s standards either as a coach or a teacher

Master’s Degree in Education Leadership

Certification, eligibility, or a clear pathway for certification in Education Leadership
