Team Leader, Patient Transportation - Education, Operation, and Dispatching
SHIFT / HOURS / LOCATION: Monday - Friday (9 AM TO 5:30 PM) / 100% ONSITE, SHIFT is subject to change based on operational needs. This position is at the West Houston HAL.
SummaryThe primary purpose of the Team Lead is to provide training for new Sr. Escorts and administrative support to the Sr. Education Specialist. The Lead will assist with onboarding new hires and function as a backup to operational needs with transports. The Team Lead is to always provide and display exceptional professional and courteous customer service and demeanor.
Oversees patient transportation activities for assigned shift. Impacts patient care and transportation throughout the institution.
The ideal candidate for the Team Leader, Patient Transportation will have 3 years of Patient Transportation, Dispatcher experience, healthcare or related experience to include one year of Lead experience.
Job FunctionsServes as liaison between transportation and support services and coordinates shift activities.Oversees and plans daily activities for assigned staff.Assists in the orientation and training of new escorts.Performs daily inspection of assigned area.Dispatches and coordinates equipment and personnel.Participates in the performance evaluations of employees.Escorts ambulatory patients and patients traveling by wheelchair, stretcher or hydraulic stretcher to their destinations safely and efficiently.Delivers transportation equipment to nursing units or clinic sections.Transports blood and specimens between nursing unit and Laboratory Medicine. Transports properly shrouded corpses to the morgue.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESConduct Audits and Manages Data:Regularly perform audits to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, identifying areas for improvement and reporting findings to management. Accurately enter and maintain data in the AMP system, ensuring that all operational activities are documented and reported effectively. Prepare and present reports on departmental activities, performance metrics, and workflow efficiencies to management and relevant committees.Staff Engagement and Client Relationship Management:Complete rounding activities to engage with staff and clients, gather feedback, and foster positive relationships within the department. Actively participate in departmental and interdepartmental committees, contributing insights and recommendations to enhance service delivery. Assist in developing and maintaining staff schedules, as well as updating the time and attendance software to reflect accurate staffing levels.Operational Oversight:Oversee and monitor daily workflows to ensure adherence to policies and processes, facilitating a smooth and efficient patient transportation experience. Serve as a key liaison between escorts, dispatchers, and entry-point staff, ensuring clear communication and coordination of transportation services. Support the management of transportation equipment, ensuring that all tools and resources are maintained and operational. Lead daily huddles to discuss operational updates, address staff concerns, and promote team engagement. Provide support in the absence of the supervisor, ensuring continuity of operations and addressing any immediate issues that may arise.
Other Duties Assigned.QualificationsEducationRequired: High school diploma or equivalent.Preferred Education: Bachelor's Level Degree.
ExperienceRequired: 3 years of patient transportation, dispatching, healthcare or related experience to include one year in a lead role.Preferred: Experience in healthcare or direct patient care.
