We are hiring one (1), full time (100% FTE), fixed term position for two (2) years. Although not guaranteed, there will be potential for an additional extension/renewal following the initial 2 years contingent upon additional funding commitments and/or programmatic needs. Please note that this position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting, subject to operational need.
SCHOOL/UNIT DESCRIPTION:The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) is a recently formed, rapidly growing institute within the Dean of Research. As an independent research institute, HAI's mission is to advance AI research, education, policy and practice to improve the human condition. What's unique about HAI is that it balances diverse expertise and integration of AI across human-centered systems and applications in a setting that could only be offered by Stanford University.
POSITION SUMMARY:The HAI team is seeking an experienced research manager to develop and execute a world-class set of industry research collaborations and initiatives to engage HAI's key communities and corporate members. Industrial affiliates programs are corporate membership organizations that facilitate deep engagement for companies with Stanford faculty, students, and their research, enabling communication about real-world problems, opportunities, and innovative solutions.
In this role, the Industry Research Initiatives Manager for HAI Corporate Partnerships will obtain a deep familiarity with the range of faculty research across campus and identify opportunities to foster research collaborations that fall under HAI corporate and foundation programs. These efforts will create strong and mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external groups and will help grow HAI's position as a partner of choice for industry and civil society.
Reporting to the Director of Partnerships, the Industry Research Initiatives Manager will foster and monitor research engagements related to the mission of the HAI Corporate Programs. This includes defining, prioritizing, and managing scholarly collaboration with industry and foundations; engaging faculty, students and writers to contribute to the research collaborative agenda of the Corporate Program; writing, presenting and synthesizing research and related thought leadership and all organizational duties associated with achieving these objectives.
CORE DUTIES:Assist in strategic planning and lead operations for Stanford HAI's Corporate Programs research initiatives.Strategy ideation, concept design, and proposal development for new strategic scholarly collaborations with HAI's corporate members.Voice of corporate members analysis to identify trends/opportunities for impact; responsible for the development of engagement models, methodologies, and offerings that ensure corporate members' success.Develop strong relationships, embracing cross-boundary collaboration to influence peers and senior executives across HAI's faculty and industry ecosystem.Organize small events and meetings with multiple stakeholders, including industry and faculty, to identify and catalyze research alignment.Identify, leverage and partner with external stakeholders.Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure efficient operations; lead or participate in multidisciplinary teams (in academia, across different faculties or schools, and in industry, across different functions of the business)Collaborate with Industry Briefs writers to ensure comprehensive faculty and research coverage in the briefs, as additionally informed by a deep understanding of industry stakeholder interest areas.* Other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience:Advanced degree and five years of relevant experience in area of specialization or combination of relevant education, training, and/or experience. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans. Experience developing program partnerships and funding sources.
Preferred Education and Experience:Experience in a technical discipline such as computer science or engineering. Experience in and strong passion for identifying synergistic opportunities at the intersection of academia and industry.Attention to detail, self-discipline, and self-motivation.Experience in a complex multi-team and strategy fast paced business environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.Advanced oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.Ability to oversee and direct staff.Ability to manage budgets and develop financial plans.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks.Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
