Position SummaryThe Principal Performance Engineer is a member of the PlantPredict product research & development team. As a member of this team you will work, learn, and grow in Terabase's unique operating environment and culture: high-growth, innovative, lean, and values-driven. The Principal Performance Engineer will lead the research and specification of new and improved models to incorporate into the PlantPredict product to meet customer and industry needs. This will require investigation into existing industry research and a desire for deep understanding of existing PlantPredict models and algorithms. The Principal Performance Engineer will engage with and represent Terabase Energy and PlantPredict within the solar PV performance modeling community.
ResponsibilitiesWork closely with the Sr. Product Director of PlantPredict and act as the technical Subject Matter Expert to the PlantPredict software development team.Develop and parametrize models that quantitatively describe performance mechanisms of solar PV power plants and storage.Benchmarking and testing of these models against field data and competitive software.Root cause analysis and rectification of faulty code and calculation methods.Communicate with and support users of PlantPredict.Participate and represent Terabase in the global performance modeling community to contribute to and stay educated on the latest industry research.
Minimum Qualifications5+ years of experience in the solar energy industry.BS in Mathematics, Material Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.3 years+ experience with modeling software such as PVsyst, PlantPredict, Solar Farmer or the like.Experience with data analysis in python, MATLAB or comparable.Experience with cloud-hosted software environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).Working experience using pvlib.Ability to work remotely and to work with distributed teams in various time zones.Proficient written and verbal English communication skills.Solid programming skills, with exposure to object oriented and functional programming techniques.
Preferred QualificationsMS in Mathematics, Material Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.5 years + experience with data analysis of utility-scale PV power plants in python, MATLAB or C++.Experience contributing to pvlib.Solid understanding of agile workflow management process.Good understanding of gitflow source code management development techniques and process.Deep understanding of the underlying methods and calculations of PV modeling software.Experience with feature development in modeling software.Experience with performance of PV modules, trackers, inverters and battery storage systems.Experience with ASTM and/or IEC capacity testing of solar PV plants.
Compensation And Benefits
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each posted range individual pay is determined (and may be greater or higher) dependent on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
