The position will include provision of interdisciplinary physical therapy patient care (60% time) in the TMD, Orofacial Pain, and Dental Sleep Medicine Clinic led by Don Nixdorf DDS.(50%) Evaluates, plans, and provides effective physical therapy services to TMD clients. Screens and triages oral facial pain patients with disabilities, disorders, and injuries to relieve pain or develop/restore muscular functions. Utilizes various mechanical and electrical equipment as well as methods such as exercise, massage, heat, cold, water, light and/or electricity, etc. Prioritizes patients to identify those needing most rapid referral to Dental providers.(10%) Contribute to and/or oversee/develop operational, clinical, and business function activities of the TMD clinical relative to physical therapy provision of evaluation and treatment, and physical therapy screening of oral facial pain patients seeking dental care. Formulate site policies and procedures, and assure regulatory compliance. Evaluate, design, and maintain work site organization and work processes to optimize operational efficiencies. May provide direction to other providers on daily operations. Maintain medical records in accordance with state and federal standards and laws. Organize and analyze the information needed for a clear understanding of the physical therapy clinical operations within the TMD clinic. Strengthen the billing and collecting systems for professional fees. May hire, mentor, and instruct physical therapy TMD staff. May develop business plans.(15%) Expand Dentistry's interprofessional education activities, which currently focus on Orofacial Pain dental resident specialty training and Continuing Dental Education, to include the development of a first ever TMD and orofacial pain training program for Physical Therapists.

Education Programs -develop and deliver educational programs to internal and external audiences. Have content expertise for the area of the educational program (Temporomandibular interdisciplinary patient care). This includes community, continuing, and professional education. Work to outreach to providers and clinical partners throughout the state.Instruction - teach credit and non-credit courses, provide support and instruction to lab learning environments, develop and deliver curriculum, and plan and develop course materials, use and/or creation of scholarly and scientific research.Instructional consultation and support - provide teaching consultation and mentorship to faculty, instructional staff, and graduate students across the system; design, deliver, measure, and evaluate courses and workshops.

(15%) Contribute specialty expertise in the Physical Therapy Division to DPT education and research.

(10%) Contribute to grant funding submissions (10% time) including the TMD IMPACT grant accelerating discovery into practice which therefore includes research, patient care, and education.

Designs, implements, and evaluates research projects. Typical duties include: Collects data and develops data collection instruments and procedures. Analyzes data; designs, collaborates, and completes research projects.Submits intra and extra mural funding proposals as PI and Co-I.

This position aligns with the Department and University missions of discovery, learning, and public service, with an emphasis on leading interdisciplinary emerging models of primary care in Dentistry, and improving access to care to the under-served and broader MN and Midwest communities.Qualifications

BA/BS degree plus at least eight years of experience, or an advanced degree plus at least five years of experience, or a terminal degree plus at least two years of experience.Physical Therapist licensure is required.About the Department
