Assistant General Counsel - Discovery and Records
to manage legal matters related to client file transfers and internal discovery. This role involves responding to subpoenas and discovery requests, reviewing firm records, and managing preservation holds. The Assistant General Counsel will work closely with various departments and external parties to ensure effective and compliant discovery processes.Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage discovery processes related to internal firm matters, providing guidance to the Office of the General Counsel, partners, associates, and business professionals.Prepare and manage responses to discovery requests and subpoenas, and assist with internal investigations.Negotiate and clarify the scope of discovery responses with requesting parties.Implement and oversee preservation holds in collaboration with the Office of the General Counsel and the Information Governance department.Work with the Information Governance department to establish and manage data preservation, collection, and review protocols.Manage the review and scoping of information from firm files for discovery, subpoenas, and file transfers.Collaborate with the litigation/eDiscovery department on project management and vendor costs.Update and refine policies and procedures related to client file transfers and discovery.Guide and supervise file review attorneys to ensure compliance with legal and procedural standards.Coordinate with outside counsel on discovery processes, including assisting with discovery motion practice and drafting briefs.Support the Office of the General Counsel in ensuring alignment with legal processes and procedures.Stay informed on legal developments related to discovery, risk management, and relevant regulations.Provide strategic legal guidance on litigation and risk management, identifying and addressing potential risks.Assist in developing and implementing risk management strategies and projects.Maintain confidentiality, ethics, and professionalism in all duties.Job Requirements:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.Active member in good standing of the jurisdiction's Bar.Minimum of 5 years of experience managing discovery, including eDiscovery projects, for complex litigation matters.Strong knowledge of discovery concepts, procedural rules, and litigation practices.Experience with relational document review databases such as Relativity.Understanding of data privacy regulations and principles.Preferred experience with legal ethics and privilege issues.Desired experience in law firm risk management and project management.Skills and Competencies:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, iManage, and other firm applications.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly.Strong legal research, analysis, and writing skills.High emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage multiple responsibilities under pressure while providing business-driven advice.Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on strategic and practical needs.Team-oriented with exceptional counseling, organizational, and analytical skills.Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, ethics, and personal integrity.Additional Requirements:
Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and travel as needed.Familiarity with eDiscovery and litigation software platforms.Ability to manage litigation risks and support loss prevention efforts.Benefits Offered:
