Who are we looking for?The Food Allergy Institute is seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial strategy of the organization. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the overall financial management, business strategy, and safeguarding of the organization’s financial assets. This role encompasses strategic planning, overseeing accounting and financial reporting, risk management, revenue cycle, and guiding financial decisions that impact business growth and sustainability. The CFO partners with the senior leadership team to develop and execute the company’s financial strategy, ensuring effective utilization of resources to achieve short-term and long-term business goals.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:Strategic Planning and Leadership

Partner with the CEO, COO, and other senior executives to set the company’s strategic direction and financial objectives.

Develop and implement financial strategies that support business growth, scalability, and profitability.

Provide expert financial guidance and support, offering insights into key business decisions and their financial impact.

Evaluate and recommend strategies for business expansion, mergers and acquisitions, and new market opportunities.

Financial Management and Analysis

Own the budgetary process across both Translational Pulmonary and Immunization Center (TPIRC) and Food Allergy Institute (FAI), ensuring resources are allocated effectively and financial forecasts are accurate.

Oversee all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning.

Develop and monitor financial performance metrics, highlighting trends and analyzing variances.

Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

Analyze financial risks and opportunities and advise on business decisions and strategies.

Accounting and Compliance

Ensure compliance with financial regulations, laws, and reporting standards (GAAP, IFRS, or other relevant standards).

Supervise accounting operations including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and tax functions.

Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Liaise with auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and address financial audits or queries.

Risk Management

Identify, assess, and manage financial risks, including market, credit, and operational risks.

Develop and oversee internal controls and financial procedures to safeguard assets.

Create risk management strategies, including insurance coverage, hedging, and contingency planning.

Capital Management, Funding and Revenue Cycle (Billing)

Manage capital structure and debt financing, ensuring the company maintains an optimal capital mix.

Lead and manage the billing revenue cycle including management of the software and legal aspects of billing, preferably at a hospital level.

Lead and manage the insurance contracting across the lab and clinical side.

Evaluate and secure funding for growth initiatives, including debt, equity, and venture capital options.

Maintain relationships with investors, financial institutions, and other stakeholders.

Establish, oversee and deploy stock planning options, that allows employees to purchase company stock at a discounted price.

Team Development and Leadership

Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance, accounting team, and billing management team.

Create a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and improvement within the finance, accounting and billing departments.

Ensure the teams are equipped with the tools and skills necessary to support the company’s financial strategy.

Business Performance and Reporting

Develop dashboards and reporting systems to provide real-time financial insights to senior management.

Monitor business KPIs and provide recommendations to improve financial performance.

Ensure transparent and accurate communication of financial results to the board and key stakeholders.

Core Competencies:

In-depth knowledge of corporate finance, investment, and risk management strategies.

Expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis.

Strong competencies in the billing revenue cycle, preferably at a hospital level.

Strong competencies in insurance contracting across the lab and clinical side.

Advanced understanding of financial laws and regulations.

Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills.

Leadership and team-building capabilities.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. MBA or master’s in finance preferably in healthcare.

Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or equivalent professional certification is a plus.

Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.

Proven experience in strategic financial planning, corporate finance, and risk management in a dynamic business environment.

Strong knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles, revenue cycle management, insurance contracting and reporting standards.

Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing finance teams.

Experience in a publicly traded company and/or private equity-backed environment is a plus.

Proven track record in managing complex financial transactions, including M&A, capital markets, business expansion and restructuring activities.

Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Standard office setting with occasional travel for meetings with stakeholders, investors, or business partners. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to walk between multiple office locations that include the use of stairs (elevator is only available in some instances).

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
