Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The primary role of the Medical Radiographer is using medical imaging equipment to produce images of tissues, organs, bones, and vessels. Performs diagnostic medical ultrasound imaging exams to assist with the diagnosis of disease and study of the malfunction of organs. Radiographers are equipped with the technological skills to handle imaging equipment and the interpersonal skills necessary for patient care.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly. Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to physician orders.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors

Takes call according to monthly schedule after the closing of the regular department hours.

Completes all work before clocking out and leaving, performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.

Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination; documents and deviation.

Interacts professionally with patients, families, and co-workers to maintain a positive enviorment.

Provides care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.

Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instructions.

Calibrates, cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning; cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment; stocks and replenish supplies as needed.

Performs all other duties as assigned by the department manager.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean

Completes annual educational requirements, maintains regulatory requirements

Reports to work on time when scheduled; completes work within designated time

Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties; maintains PAR levels including scanning each item used out of inventory.

Wears identification badge while on duty, uses time system correctly to punch in or out and adds call as needed.

Attends department meetings, annual review and department in-services, as scheduled. Read all department meeting minutes.

Maintains hospital requirements, policies, and standards on confidentiality.

Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.

Possesses a high level of knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.

Actively participates in performance, quailty, and process improvement goals.

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.

Basic computer knowledge, including navigation through EMR, PACS, & RIS.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from an approved school of Radiologic Technology, Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.Must be registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is preferred. One year of radiologic/imaging/ultrasound experience preferred but not required.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Current BLS certification, or complete within 6 months of hire.
