Job Summary
Provides optimum assistance to physicians through the performance of a wide variety of health care services, such as patient care tasks, diagnostic procedures, and therapeutic procedures. Oversee daily duties of the Neurology mid-level practitioners. Perform daily and monthly scheduling of practitioners, weekend schedules and PTO. Ensure proper mid-level support coverage for physicians, including stroke calls, rounding on patients, and consults as needed. Work with the Medical Director, Associate Administrator, and Nurse Manager on a routine basis for optimal Neurology services to CAMC and patients, to include Evidence Based Care.
Responsibilities
* The Physician Assistant shall, under appropriate direction and supervision by a Physician, augment the Physician's data gathering abilities in order to assist the supervising Physician in reaching decisions and instituting care plans for the Physician's patients. A Physician Assistant shall have, as a minimum, the knowledge and competency to perform the following functions and may under appropriate supervision perform them; this list is not intended to be specific of all-inclusive: May assist physician in one or more of the following: ED, ICU, Nursing units Screen patients to determine need for medical attention. Review patient records to determine health status. Take a patient history as relates to initial neurology consult. Perform a physical examination as relates to initial neurology consult. Record pertinent patient data. Make decisions regarding data gathering and appropriate management and treatments of patients being seen for the initial evaluation of a problem or the follow-up evaluation of a previously diagnosed and stabilized condition. Prepare patient summaries. Initiate requests for commonly performed initial laboratory and radiological studies. Identify normal and abnormal findings in history, physical examination, and commonly performed laboratory studies. Initiate appropriate evaluation and emergency management for emergency situations; i.e., cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, neurological conditions. Perform clinical procedures: • • • CPR • • • Carry out aseptic and isolation techniques • • • Provide patient counseling and instruction. Readily assist and perform assigned tasks in accordance with good medical judgment and departmental procedures. Demonstrate a working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, and abbreviations. Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime and various shift work. • Additional Responsibilities of Lead Mid-level Practitioner for Neurology: To work in accordance with the Medical Director, Associate Administrator, and Nurse Manager of the Neurology Department to improve the workflow pertaining to mid-level practitioners and to improve in-hospital workflow To generate a monthly schedule including weekends and holidays for mid-level practitioners and to oversee mid-level practitioner PTO requests and scheduling, to include denial of request when appropriate staffing is an issue To generate a weekly duties/responsibilities schedule for mid-level practitioners, as appropriate To oversee daily duties/responsibilities to maintain appropriate rounding on hospital patients To assist in the recruitment and retention of new mid-level practitioners and orient and train new mid-level practitioners To provide additional mid-level practitioner training/education when needed To provide guidance/corrective action when needed pertaining to midlevel practitioners To aid in overseeing annual licensure and credentialing requirements pertaining to midlevel practitioners. To ensure equity in workloads and weekend/holiday assignments to prevent unnecessary expenses. To oversee the integrity of the clinical documentation of mid-levels in elecenteronic medical record. To oversee the integrity of the clinical documentation related to Evidence Based Care for neurology patients. To assist the Nurse Manager in proper Time reporting of mid-levels for payroll purposes. To assist the Associate Administrator and Medical Director in coordinating any Quality monitoring or reporting initiatives involving mid-levels.
