Summary:The Dean reports to the Provost and exercises supervision of the department chairpersons, faculty and staff of the College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences. The college is composed of the departments of Teacher Education and Leadership; Social Work, Psychology and Counseling; English and Foreign Languages; Visual, Performing and Communication Arts; and Health Sciences, Human Performance and Communicative Disorders.Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:As the chief administrative officer of the college, the Dean is expected to:Provide professional, intellectual and administrative leadership to supervise all department chairs, directors, and coordinators.Have an understanding of licensing and teacher certification procedures, policies, and patterns at the state level.Maintain CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation), state, regional and national accreditations.Have experience with program assessment procedures to support faculty, staff and students.Demonstrate sound fiscal management practices to promote excellence in teaching and scholarship to facilitate student recruitment.Encourage faculty development.Have experience with formal evaluation, tenure, and promotion processes.Build partnerships with external constituents and public organizations.Engage in fundraising and facilitate the public affairs mission of the University as it relates to the College.Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):
Must have a doctorate in a discipline offered by the college.At least of five (5) years of continuous service in higher education administration at the department chair or higher level.Must have the rank of associate or full professorKnowledge of teacher certification processes.Knowledge and awareness of CAEP and other accreditations held by programs in the College (e.g., for rehabilitation counseling, communicative sciences and disorders, social work).
