We are looking for a
Senior Income Tax Analyst.
The Senior Income Tax Analyst accounts for income and other taxes, assists with federal and state tax audits, and prepares and reviews federal and state income tax returns and estimated tax payments for SMG and its subsidiaries. Ensures compliance with all applicable tax laws while minimizing the company's tax liabilities. Leads and assists tax research & planning and special projects. Maintains high ethical standards and supports the company's reputation for integrity.
The position reports to the Manager, Income Tax.
In this role you will:
Prepares and reviews federal, state and local income and franchise tax returns and estimated payment calculations. Minimizes taxes by proper application of tax exemptions, claims, credits, abatements and other tax favorable methods.
Assists with inter-period tax provision and allocation under ASC 740, records timing and permanent differences between income for financial and tax purposes and maintains tax basis balance sheets for deferred tax calculations. Prepares annual budget and monthly forecast of effective tax rate and estimated tax balance sheet. Helps to lead the state tax provision area.
Assists with research and analysis of compensation and benefits opportunities as well as other payroll related inquiries as needed. Provides assistance with other research and special projects to implement tax strategies, reduce worldwide taxes, and/or document and support current tax positions.
Works with federal, state, local, and foreign tax authorities during the course of audits or VDAs and negotiates favorable settlements of proposed assessments. Evaluates the prospects of further appeal or litigation. Performs ongoing review and research of state tax laws, court decisions, and administrative pronouncements to ensure the company's compliance and identify opportunities for tax savings.
Assists in preparing domestic and foreign transfer pricing studies to support arm's-length pricing of intercompany payments for goods and services. Helps to ensure compliance with global transfer pricing documentation requirements and minimization of associated tax risk.
Maintains proper documentation and testing of procedures to ensure adequate internal controls and to satisfy requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley Act Section 404.
What you'll need to be successful:
Two to four years' experience with a major corporation or CPA firm, with a minimum of two years in tax.
Familiarity with accounting principles and procedures, especially ASC 740.
Thorough understanding of a majority of the following tax laws: federal income, multistate and local income & franchise and foreign income.
Must be self-directed with outstanding organizational skills. Exhibits ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy, especially in a hybrid environment.
Computer literacy - Microsoft Office expertise required. Knowledge and hands-on application of tax compliance and research software required. SAP, OneSource Income Tax / Tax Provision, Google Suite, RPA, and Alteryx experience is a plus.
Familiar with tax research applications and documentation best practices.
Ability to effectively coach and develop staff.
Meets deadlines consistently and deals effectively with senior management and auditors.
Excellent problem-solving, communication and presentation skills.
Works well in group situations resolving issues.
Proactive and diligent in self review of deliverables.
Ability to excel in an at home work environment
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $85,100.00 - $100,100.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.In addition to the determined base salary, this role is also incentive eligible under our corporate bonus programs.
