Principal Data Scientist
Description -
HP's Digital and Transformation Organization (D&TO) is focused on building world-class digital capabilities, and our Data Science team is responsible for leading the development the data science models to support that vision. Whether it's improving our ability to do demand planning & forecasting, or better understanding the behavior of our partners & customers, in this role you will be empowered to work across a range of areas and use cases, leveraging your expertise with machine learning and/or statistics modeling to deliver value.
Responsibilities
Leverages structured and unstructured data to build and deploy machine learning or statistical models.Partners with senior stakeholders and DS leadership to assess, develop and position data science projects in order to deliver value to the organization.Navigates complex data and business processes in order to build end-to-end solutionsIs able to leverage strong communication skills to deliver complex messaging to both technical and non-technical leadersCan engage in multiple projects while coordinating the efrorts more junior team members within the context of each project.Can manage all data science aspects of a project - often partnering with project management professionals as part of broader, company-wide engagementsKnowledge & Skills
Knowledge of statistics and machine learning, specifically regression, classification and time series methods.Extensive experience applying stats/ML methods to specific business domains (supply chain, planning, marketing, etc.)Ability to translate real-world problems into questions that can be answered via data science models.Expert level proficiency working with Python and SQL; experience in software development a plus.Ability to engage with stakeholders in order to transform problem statements to ensure value delivery.Excellent written and verbal communication skillsScope & Impact
Expected to mentor more junior team members on a per-project basis, and interact frequently with project managers, DS leadership and senior stakeholders.Typically interacts with high- level Individual Contributors, Managers, Directors and Program Core Teams.Leads multiple projects requiring a range of data science topics, including data engineering, statistical/ml modeling, and business intelligenceEducation & Experience
Bachelor's, Master's or PHD degree in Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Computer Science, or equivalent.Typically 6-10 years' experience including graduate or postgraduate research.The base pay range for this role is $137,000 to $211,000 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to US candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
