The Director of Labor Relations will collaborate with the leadership to define the organization's labor relations strategy, overseeing collective bargaining, and union negotiations, and ensuring compliance with labor laws across multiple regions. This role is responsible for developing and implementing labor relations policies, managing complex labor issues, understanding and advising on national and individual labor agreements, and fostering strong partnerships between management, unions, and employees. The Director will serve as a knowledgeable advisor on labor relations matters, guiding leadership on national labor trends and strategies to support excellent labor relationships and business objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, advise, and execute a comprehensive labor relations strategy that aligns with organizational goals, ensuring a consistent approach to labor management across all locations and a strong relationship with the union.Lead national-level negotiations and relationships with Mechanical Service Contractors of America ("MSCA") and any local unions, overseeing the collective bargaining process and representing the organization in all major labor agreements.Establish and maintain strong working relationships with national, regional, and local union leaders, fostering collaboration and addressing issues proactively.Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and other relevant regulations, and with the National Service & Maintenance Agreement and all collective bargaining agreements.Serve as an advisor and representative in any labor disputes, arbitrations, and grievances, working closely with leadership to resolve issues in line with company policy and legal standards.Develop national labor relations policies and ensure they are implemented consistently across regions while adapting to local labor environments when necessary.Monitor and analyze labor relations trends, turnover rates, absenteeism, grievances, and other workforce metrics to identify risks and opportunities for improvement. Maintain a detailed working knowledge and document database of all labor agreements and schedules applicable to Climate Pros.Provide expert counsel to senior leadership on labor relations issues, trends, and risks; recommend proactive measures to maintain positive employee relations.Lead the development of labor relations training programs for management teams to ensure a proper understanding of labor laws, union relations, and conflict resolution.Work closely with senior leadership and other cross-functional teams to ensure labor agreements and policies comply with the law and support organizational objectives.Anticipate and identify potential labor risks and develop strategies to mitigate these risks while ensuring business continuity.Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Skills, Education, and Competencies
Degree in Labor Relations, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.7+ years of experience in labor/employee relations across multiple regions or at the national level with a preference for experience with the Pipefitters United Association.In-depth knowledge of labor laws, including the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).Demonstrated ability to analyze complex labor contracts and resolve labor disputes.Experience in developing labor strategies, collective bargaining, and union negotiations, with a preference for experience with the Pipefitters Union or related industrial service and or refrigeration/HVAC industry.Strong problem-solving abilities, especially in conflict resolution.SPHR or similar senior human resources certification strongly preferredAbility to manage and influence people with proven experienceStrong analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.Ability to understand and retain information and data with respect to multiple union locations and schedules and to advise based on such data.Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with union leaders, management, and employees.Ability to travel domestically for union negotiations and labor relations matters.Excellent presentation skills and ability to work in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
