DescriptionAssociate, Sales and Use TaxAlvarez and Marsal Tax, LLC, is seeking to expand our Sales and Use Tax practice with the addition of an Associate. The Sales and Use practice assists clients in assessing state and local tax burdens by recommending solutions that support their overall business objectives and provide support so that their filing positions are consistent with good business practices and with the states' applicable tax laws and rules.
What will you be doing?
As an Associate for the Sales and Use Tax practice, you will
Assist, prepare, and maintain sales and use tax documentation for auditsPerform multi-state state and local sales and use tax researchAssist with state and local sales and use tax due diligence analysis for business acquisitions or divestituresPrepare detailed Sales & Use tax technical research memorandums for internal sources and clientsMaintain contemporaneous documentation re: product taxability determinationsMonitor and analyze Accounts Payable systems and miscellaneous entries to determine the taxability and monthly use tax accrual requirementsDraft pertinent technical letters to appropriate state officials on tax interpretationWork with ERP systems such as SAP and automated sales tax determination packages (Vertex or OneSource tax software) to ensure proper taxation of sales and purchasesPerform audit defense for Sales & UseProvide sales and use tax training of internal customers in the form of memos, classes etc. (plants and accounting personnel)Perform any tasks necessary to ensure we accomplish our goals of increased compliance to tax laws and lower tax audit liabilitiesPrepare data files for sales & use tax and any other statutory filingsRespond to notices from state and local jurisdictions as neededUtilizing process control (how to measure, track, analyze and initiate improvement)Develop recommendations based on audit results to minimize exposureWork on research projects to update the company's sales and use tax matricesWork on special projects related to incentives for sales and use taxBuild relationships with client personnel, to assist with sales and use tax issuesParticipate in the development of staff through mentoringWho will you be working with?

Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance is preferredSales and Use Tax experience is preferredExperience with various research software RIA, CCH and other software (Vertex and OneSource is a plus)Ability to identify issues and exposures for audits and noticesWe are looking for an individual who is excited about working in a positive, proactive workingSales tax consulting experience is desiredProficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required; knowledge of Vertex and OneSource software is a plusMust have a proactive can-do attitude with strong analytical, organizational, technical and technological skillsExcellent communication abilities with intellectual curiosityWilling to work in a hybrid working environmentSalary
The annual base salary is $75,000, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
