SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (Location to be determined)2024-2025 School Year
JOB DESCRIPTION:Reduce or eliminate speech and language impairments that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational programs. Is aware of and abides by the mandates of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement. Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of children with speech and language impairments. Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments. Provide hearing screenings to identify children with possible hearing problems. Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice fluency and language impairments. Attend Individual Education Program meetings and consult with Student Support Team to make decisions concerning students with speech and language impairments. Develop Individualized Educational Plan for each identified student with a disability in accordance with state and federal regulations. Provide appropriate individualized program of therapy to meet individual student's needs and correct existing speech or language impairments. Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by making suggestions for the student's daily activities. Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate. Provide in-service education and a serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech and language improvement. Keep thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school provided speech and hearing services. Maintain list of referred, screened, and eligible students as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialist, and related services. Compile case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early development history, and environmental history are deemed appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION OR TRAINING:Masters degree preferred from an accredited college or university; appropriate Georgia teacher certification in the appropriate field.
REQUIRED SKILLS:Ability to plan, organizes, and implements the speech and language therapy programs of the system. Proficiency required in oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and competency in counseling and evaluating student needs.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:Successful teacher training and/or teaching experience in programs for speech and language impaired children.
