Job Description:
General Summary:
The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant will perform services and consultation with teachers at school sites; provide activities designed to develop language skills and articulation skills including speech production, vocalization and social pragmatics in students with speech/language disorders.
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:*Conduct speech-language screenings using a variety of screening tools and techniques.Follow documented therapy plans.Documentation of student progress.Prepare therapy materials for use in pullout small group setting or in classroom settingAdapt or modify instructional materials as determined by student need and abilities for teacher-use in the classroom.Consult with general education teachers to co-plan instructional materials or implement strategies.Consult with general education teachers to co-plan instructional materials or implement strategiesTrack performance data using progress monitoring tools and report progress on IEP goalsCommunicate progress to parents, teachers and Speech and Language Pathologist in regular meetings, phone conversations and progress notes.Participate in IEP process; attend meetings when appropriate and attend parent conferencesCollaborates with members of IEP Team, Special Education Team and School site team.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning stylesAbility and willingness to implement students' IEP'sEffective record keeping and proceduresSpeech, language, hearing development, disorders and rehabilitationArticulation disorders and rehabilitation. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with general education and special education colleagues, parents and community.Special education experience.Education and Experience:
AA DegreeCompletion of a Speech and Language Pathology Assistant ProgramRegistration as a Speech and Language Pathology Assistant with the State of California1 Year working with students with special needs in an educational setting preferred.
