Job DescriptionA publicly traded company generating over $19 billion in annual revenue and operating across 100 countries.Boasts a rich and dynamic history spanning over 120 years.Experiencing significant strategic growth, enhancing its complementary strengths in the marketplace.Offers exceptional exposure and advancement opportunities.In this role, you will be a key member of the Tax department, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the state income tax function, including compliance, financial reporting (ASC 740), controversy support, and special projects. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, proactive, and detail-oriented, capable of performing first-level reviews on a regular basis. We are looking for a strategic thinker who has strong technical expertise in State and Local tax, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to lead and mentor a team.
Essential Functions:
Support the quarterly and annual income tax provision process for the state and local tax function, ensuring compliance with ASC 740. This entails meticulously preparing and reviewing various key deliverables and processes, including:Taking full ownership of the timing and scheduling of all state tax deliverables to ensure prompt delivery of all required provision calculations.Calculating blended current and deferred state tax rates using up-to-date apportionment data and effective statutory tax rates.Forecasting state permanent and temporary modifications, such as interest limitations, U.S. international modifications, depreciation modifications.Tracking and forecasting state attribute generation, utilization, and realizability assessments, encompassing credits, loss carryforwards and interest carryforwards.Analyzing state FIN48 tax accruals and providing recommendations as necessary.Reconciling and validating state income tax payable/receivable accounts as well as state deferred tax asset/liability accounts.Ensuring full compliance with all pertinent SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) requirements.Oversee, review, and ensure the timely and accurate filing of all state and local income tax returns which are prepared both in-house and co-sourced.Prepare and review the calculation of state estimated tax payments and extension filings, ensuring all appropriate payments are timely made and accurately reflected in the CorpTax Calendar.Monitor state and local tax laws impacting the company, interpret their implications to our company, and effectively communicate the impacts to the Tax leadership team. Implement planning strategies, if necessary, to mitigate risks and uphold compliance standards.Research, analyze and document a wide range of income and franchise tax issues and implications, including, nexus considerations, apportionment methodology, and combined filings.Manage all state tax controversy matters, including examinations, audit defense planning, notice responses, and VDA projects.Support and implement strategic planning to meet the company's tax profile objectives.Assist in the mentoring and development of tax team members by sharing technical knowledge, providing constructive feedback and best practices, and being available to aide in their technical, technological, and professional career aspirations.Qualifications:
Bachelor's with 12 years prior state/local income tax experienceGraduate Degree with 10 years prior state/local income tax experience.In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.Preferred Additional Skills:
CPA, JD, or MST a plus.Experience with a Big 4 accounting firm and/or large tax department of a multinational company.Strong proficiency with MS Excel.Detail oriented, analytical, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.Strong written and verbal communications skills.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships cross-functionally within the organization.
