The Department of Criminal Justice Service is seeking a collaborative and innovative team player to serve as a full-time General Ledger Accountant in Richmond, Virginia. The Finance team seeks a highly qualified and motivated full-time professional dedicated to ensuring the accurate presentation of the agency's financial position. What you will do:• Perform various reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of financial transactions.• Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries to ensure financial statements are accurately reflected.• Perform various tasks within the unit, including but not limited to: Serving as back up for payroll certification, assisting with the completion of the agency's year-end attachments due to DOA.• Perform various analyses on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.• Assist in preparing the agency's annual indirect cost proposal.• Update policies and procedures as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
What the ideal candidate must possess:• Demonstrated knowledge of the CAPP manual and its application.• Demonstrated experience working with automated Financial Management/Accounting Systems.• Experience performing accounting activities in accordance with GAAP and GASB.• Demonstrated experience in providing technical assistance in accounting and/or financial policies and procedures with a strong attention to detail.• Demonstrated experience with preparation and review of analyzing financial transactions and reports.• Experience working in a finance, accounting or auditing environment within Virginia State Government.• Demonstrated experience developing and/or applying policies and procedures.• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel.• Ability to think strategically and cross culturally, and independently implement new initiatives and projects.• Ability to articulate, both orally and in written form, clear and concise program objectives and goals and summarize achievements of programs in reports and other documents as requested.• Documented experience working as an active, contributing team member, as well as an independent and self-motivated employee.• Demonstrated ability to meet critical deadlines, handle multiple assignments, changing priorities, and ensure timeliness and quality of completed assignments.
Additional Considerations
• Professional training/certification in areas related to finance, accounting, or business administration.• Experience and knowledge of grant accounting.• Experience with the Commonwealth's Cardinal System.• Experience with preparation of Commonwealth's End of Year Reporting attachments and directives.• A strong work ethic, good customer service, interpersonal skills, and a positive attitude.
Special Instructions
Interview candidates may be required to demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory performance of work. The candidate selected for the position must successfully complete a criminal background investigation and complete and submit a Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) which will be entered into the Federal E-Verify system to confirm identity and work authorization. The individual may also be responsible for submitting an annual Statement of Personal Economic Interest. In addition, the selected candidate who begins employment or re-employment in this position must serve a 12-month probationary period effective from the date of employment. The anticipated starting salary range is $70,000 to $90,000 plus the State's benefit package.
