Job Summary
Under general direction, the Pharmacist In Charge, ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations for a hospital pharmacy; compounds and dispenses prescribed medications; provides supervision of professional, paraprofessional, and support staff.
DutiesMaintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugsMonitors storage, distribution, and use of pharmaceuticals for all pharmacy locationsDocuments, evaluates, and reports medication errors and initiates corrective action planCompounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient careDirects pharmacy staff engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticalsReviews orders issued by Physician to determine accuracyConsults with physicians and nurses regarding pharmaceutical questions and provides information on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticalsAdvises physicians on formulary medications and cost-effective and innovative therapiesProvides education to clinical staff related to pharmaceutical carePrepares and monitors pharmacy budgetAssists in development of policy and procedures for staff and pharmacy operationsReviews and authorizes all pharmaceutical invoices for paymentSupervises professional, paraprofessional and clerical staffSelects and trains staffAssigns and evaluates workCounsels employees regarding work performance and professional development, taking disciplinary actions as appropriatePerforms other duties as assignedOther Info:
