Data Scientist
As part of the team charged with improving the delivery of Penn Medicine healthcare services using data, the Data Scientist will provide statistical analysis of medical claims. This position will function to make significant contributions related to claims analysis. This individual will jointly report to the Physician Leader and the Chief Data Scientist, and collaborate with the entire team.
Accountabilities
Extract, transform and load data from across platforms to prepare for data use by team
Create real-time dash boards for strategic planning
Plans and performs analysis of data across the enterprise; can provide conclusions based on data and show differences among parts of the operation using data
Demonstrates knowledge of data analysis and data modeling; Understands data governance; can use data to “tell a story” and to support recommendations from leadership group
As a data analyst works to increase the data understanding of others; advances the program in formal and informal ways
Work with others to ideate novel and interesting models to address business needs
Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree (In a Relevant field) And 4+ years Claims analysis experience
Or
Master's Degree (in a Relevant field) And 2+ years Healthcare data analysis experience is required.
Prior experience with medical claims is preferred.
Prior experience with Medicare claims is preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities
ANALYTICS: Knowledge of healthcare operations and data structures and the use of information system applications in the practicing healthcare environment
ANALYTICS: Strong quantitative and analytical abilities
TECHNOLOGY: Proficient with database use including queries and reporting
Working knowledge of R, Python and SQL
Knowledge of relational databases
Working knowledge of data science and machine learning libraries (e.g. caret, scikit-learn, etc.)
Knowledge of Dashboarding tools like Power BI, Tableau or others.
Knowledge of Jupyter notebooks and git
Senior Data Scientist
The Center for Healthcare Transformation and Innovation (CHTI) at Penn Medicine facilitates the rapid development, testing, and scaling of new strategies to reimagine health care delivery to improve patient outcomes and provider satisfaction. Sitting within CHTI, the Core for Precision Resource Utilization (CPRU) is a data science team working towards these goals by using advanced analytics and predictive modeling to build actionable, data-driven deliverables for the health system. In this role, the Senior Data Scientist will leverage electronic health record (EHR) and medical claims data to meet stakeholder needs, including but not limited to: data extraction and cleaning; statistical analysis; predictive analytics; and machine learning workflows. This position will function to make significant contributions to process improvement and healthcare innovation efforts by working closely with physician and administrative leaders to ensure valid and reliable data products. This position requires the ability to collaborate with the team and to communicate complex data to different audiences in diverse ways.
