Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for the purchase and proper inventory rotation of all fresh meat and meat relateditems for resale to members. To promote sales of these items to the members and purchasethem at the lowest possible price.
SUPERVISION:Under moderate supervision. Supervises no one else.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Placing orders over phone and/or directly to the vendor representative.Communicate with members over the phone taking orders, giving current prices andnegotiating truckload buys.Scheduling receiving of meat with the warehouse and traffic departments to insure properquantities and freshness.Negotiate for the lowest possible prices and keep abreast of current market conditionsand trends.Respond to and resolve any problems with member stores on meat packers.Review daily meat receiving, accounts payable vouchers, and supplier invoices foraccuracy.Maintain current maintenance on the computer on all assigned items and pieces.Tour the coolers to check quality and rotation of assigned product.Review all special sales, A-Maps, E.B.A.'s and pre-booked itemsIMPORTANT FUNCTIONS:
Operate the computer to create purchase orders and enter proper maintenance on allassigned items.Use basic math skills to calculate quantities needed and to figure gains and losses onprice changes.Need to be able to make buying decisions daily.Use good communication skills in dealing with members and suppliers.Operate office machines such as calculators, copiers, fax machines, etc.Must be able to read and retain all pertinent information of products and markets.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Any combination of education, training and experience providing the following knowledge,skills, and abilities:Knowledge:Product knowledge of meat items, accounting principles, communication skills, knowledge ofwarehouse functions, billing and receiving procedures.Abilities:Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; read and understand pertinent data; performbasic mathematical calculations, enter data on-line on the computer.Experience, Education and Training:High school education or vocational training in meat merchandising. Meat retailexperience/buying training.Physical Requirements:Walking, writing, typing, sitting, reaching, data entry, standing, filing, bending and climbing.Working Environment:Indoors; heating and cooling regulated; adequate lighting and ventilation. Inside meatcoolers at temperatures of 28 degrees and below. Safety hazards possible whenmaneuvering in warehouse.
