Summary The position is located at the Santa Rosa CBOC, Dental Service. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCMENT and will remain open until December 23rd, 2024. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be November 7th, 2024, with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks. Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. Salary will be prorated to 2 days per week. Responsibilities The Oral Maxillofacial Surgery dental officer serves as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Responsibilities: Make oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity and its adjacent tissues and structures. Diagnose and manage pathological or irregular oral conditions. Assess medical history and apply knowledge to the management of patients Administer local and regional anesthesia, anxiolysis and oral sedation, as required by the clinical setting. Accomplish admissions, work-up and performance of surgical procedures of patients presenting with illnesses, injuries, and disorders of both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial regions. Accomplish dentoalveolar surgical procedures, dental implant surgery, pre-prosthetic surgery, closed reduction of facial fractures, management of infections, minor bone grafting, biopsy procedures, and management of temporomandibular joint disorders, as required by the clinical setting. Work Schedule: Clinic hours are Mon-Fri, 8:00am-4:30pm This is a part-time position, two days per week. Annual Salary will be prorated to the hours worked. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification is required if IV sedation is performed. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Dentist Basic Requirements: A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Requirements: Must have successfully completed an American Dental Association (ADA) approved residency program in oral maxillofacial surgery. Preferred Experience: Board certification in oral and maxillofacial surgery is encouraged upon hiring and is a requirement within several years after residency to work in the operating room. 5+ years experience preferred. Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. This is a designated drug testing position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted.
