SALARY : Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Hampshire County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level plus competitive benifits package equal to approximatly 35% of direct compensation.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and HCBOE Evaluation Policy

JOB SUMMARY:

The School Nurse provides nursing/health related services to the students and schoolcommunity at assigned school(s).

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (Additional duties may be assigned)

Respond to student health issues at assigned school(s)Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the health service program for the assigned school(s)Serve as a resource and consultant to the school staff, students and families on health-related issuesDevelop, write and implement health care plans for specific individual students, including Health Electronic Care Plans (HECP)Maintain and update knowledge and understanding of WVBE Policy 2422.7 Standards of Basic and Specialized Health Care Procedures and the Health Care Procedures ManualParticipate in establishing procedures for emergency care of student injuries/illnessesDevelop and implement procedures and programs for the prevention and control of communicable diseasesAssist in the investigation of communicable diseasesPromote the collaboration and transfer of information among the community health professionals, the schools and the Hampshire County Health DepartmentReview and update student health recordsAttend and participate in faculty, staff and community meetings as a representative of the school health programParticipate in the school's multi-disciplinary team evaluation processParticipate as the health professional in IEP and 504 meetingsServe as the liaison between the school, student, parents, and health care providersCollaborate with principals and staff to assess, plan, and maintain a healthy school environmentCoordinate and implement the school's health screening program and follow-up activitiesCoordinate and monitor compliance with state immunization lawsAssist in the development of health care plans for special needs studentsAssist and provide health care class instructionMaintain ongoing contact with school principal(s), teachers, aides, secretaries, cooks, and custodians regarding health-related issuesIdentify and prioritize students who need individual health care plansAdminister first aid and emergency care by responding immediatelyMonitor medication administration at the schoolsPerform medication audits of schools' medication logsEnsure the delivery of school health services at assigned schoolsMaintain confidential information in compliance with state nursing procedures, Hampshire County Schools' procedures and the WVDE's procedures for the Collection, Maintenance, and Disclosure of School Records, and the federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)Maintain expertise by participating in relevant professional developmentCoordinate referrals for various health problems to appropriate community resources and keep appropriate school staff apprised of the referral statusAssist with health related attendance problemsComplete an annual report and submit to the Coordinator of Student Support/Social ServicesParticipate on Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) School Team

QUALIFICATIONS:Certified School Nurse is defined as a registered professional nurse, who is licensed by the WV Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses (WV Code § 30-7-1, et seq.), who has completed a WVDE approved program as defined in Policy 5100: Approval of Educational Personnel Preparation Programs (WV 126CSR114), and meets the requirements for certification as contained in WVBE Policy 5202: Minimum requirements for the Licensure of Professional/Paraprofessional Personnel and Advanced Salary Classifications (WV 126CRS136-hereinafter Policy 5202). The certified school nurse must be employed by the county board of education or the county health department as specified in WV Code § 18-5-22.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus. The position required the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/technical laboratories where noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
