Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for four

Wildfire Mitigation Specialists

to join our Planning, Engineering and Construction team. Two of the positions will be two-year, temporary roles, and the other two will be full-time, permanent roles. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote. does a Wildfire Mitigation Specialist

do

us?

This position plays a key role in the successful execution of Idaho Power’s Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP). They develop and implement wildfire mitigation strategies that decrease the risk and impacts of wildfire on the Idaho Power distribution and transmission systems. They manage multiple wildfire mitigation program initiatives that include short and long-term project planning, implementation, contract management, daily operations, and reporting of results.

The Wildfire Mitigation Specialist duties will be represented in multiple areas of expertise listed below:

Generalist:

The Wildfire Mitigation Specialist - Generalist role is responsible for ongoing execution and management of wildfire mitigation programs and initiatives. They are responsible for periodic reporting and assist in carrying out annual revisions and updates to the Wildfire Mitigation Plan. They manage various projects and pilots involving new technology, ensuring deadlines are met, and reporting on key findings or outcomes to help develop new or expand existing mitigation strategies.

Compliance:

The Wildfire Mitigation Specialist - Compliance role supports wildfire mitigation and regulatory compliance initiatives. They monitor and document annual mitigation initiatives and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements. The role involves close collaboration with internal teams and other stakeholders to develop, implement, and monitor mitigation programs and assists in the preparation of reports and documentation for regulatory filings. They analyze data and reports to monitor program performance and identify areas for improvement. This is currently a temporary, two-year position.

Fire Response Strategies:

The Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Fire Response is responsible for ongoing support and management of fuel reduction initiatives and development of response plans for active wildfire events. They direct contracted fire support personnel to perform pole protection, field observations, and other fire response functions during active wildfires. They train internal employees and contractors on preventative practices, annually, and build relationships with federal, state, and local fire agencies and departments to identify opportunities for collaboration on mitigation projects. This is currently a temporary, two-year position.

Risk Analyst:

The Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Risk Analyst is responsible for performing wildfire risk assessments and mitigation planning across Idaho Power’s service territory. They analyze geospatial data, fire return intervals, vegetation, weather history, and other factors to assess wildfire risk and inform planning decisions. They are responsible for modeling and refining detailed wildfire risk zones (maps) to guide infrastructure hardening efforts. They develop risk quantification methods to support mitigation strategies and stay current with advancements in wildfire risk modeling, data analytics, utility infrastructure resilience.

Create and implement complex solutions for wildfire mitigation

Analyze root causes and recommend practical and effective solutions

Work effectively in a team environment

Prepare written and oral reports

Work effectively with a diverse group of people

Preferred:

Comprehend technical issues and opportunities

Negotiate complex issues

Analyze data to produce key performance indicators

Conduct geospatial analysis to support projects and draw meaningful insights and recommendations

Ability to analyze data sets and use statistical methods to model wildfire behavior and perform risk assessments

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Bachelor's degree

OR

Equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in forestry, environmental science, business, engineering, accounting, mathematics, or statistics

Experience:

5 years of experience in utility operations, wildfire mitigation projects, or program management

Preferred:

Wildfire risk mitigation activity implementation, fire suppression and response, incident command procedures, management of small to medium scale projects

Licenses & Certifications:

Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires both office work and field work. The office work requires working at a desk/computer. It also requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs.

The field work consists of meeting at outdoor worksites and off-site meeting areas. Driving is performed frequently. Lifts no greater than 10lbs are performed occasionally and occasional walking is required on sometimes rough, uneven ground. Stooping, bending, and standing is performed occasionally.
