Description
Starting salary to commence at $60,412 - $79,551 except in extenuating circumstances. Plus, additional retention-incentive pay $2,000 - $7,000 / year based upon work experience for licensed Inspectors.
Provisional candidates must have prior work experience in Building, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical trades and will receive assistance from the City to obtain your Florida Inspector License(s).

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:Inspects construction work for compliance with applicable Federal, State and City codes pertaining to all inspector licenses maintained.Examines and approves plans and specifications.Makes recommendations as necessary for conformance, structural soundness, safety and efficiency.Approves inspections, issues "stop work" orders as warranted, conducts follow-up inspections as needed and dispenses final approvals of appropriate permits upon completion of construction.Responsible for staying current with all applicable codes, standards and licenses.Accurately and legibly completes and maintains records, reports, forms, and other required documentation.Safely and efficiently drives and operates city vehicles as required. Transports supplies, tools, or other material to and from job site.May be assigned code enforcement responsibilities as deemed necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education and Training
Level I (Grade 132)
Five years of experience, that will qualify for a Provisional Building Inspector License (BCAIB 3) within 120 days of employment, or;
to qualify as an Intern, must possess a current International Code Council (ICC) certification in either Building, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical and secure acceptance into the State Internship program and Provisional Building Inspector License (BCAIB 3) within 120 days of employment. Must also maintain satisfactory progress in the Internship program as a condition of employment.
Level II (Grade 134)
Must possess and maintain one (1) Inspector license in Building, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical as required by Florida Statute 468.601-468.633 and Chapter 61G19 Florida Administrative Code.
Level III (Grade 136)
Must possess and maintain two Inspector or one (1) Inspector and one Plans (1) Examiner license(s): Inspector license(s) in Building, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical as required by Florida Statute 468.601-468.633 and Chapter 61G19 Florida Administrative Code.
Level IV (Grade 138)
Must possess and maintain three Inspector or two (2) Inspector and one (1) Plans Examiner license(s): Inspector license(s) in Building, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical; or any Plans Examining license(s) as required by Florida Statute 468.601-468.633 and Chapter 61G19 Florida Administrative Code. Alternatively, must possess and maintain a One- and Two- Family Dwelling Inspector license.

Ability to work independently of direct supervision and capable of sustaining regular and predictable attendance. Capable of examining plans for conformance with codes and ordinances. Ability to conduct inspections of construction sites for new buildings, additions, manufactured home installations, swimming pools, boat lifts, etc. Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Capable of prioritizing and completing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, handle the pressure of deadlines and deal with difficult people with courtesy and self-control. Ability to render consistent and accurate interpretations of codes and regulations and to communicate same to contractors and affected property owners. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, government officials, contractors and the general public. Possess a valid Florida Driver's license, free of any serious violations.
Requires a working knowledge of the current version of the Microsoft Office Professional software suite including proficiency with Word and Excel. Must have a basic understanding of the current version of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Familiarity with CentralSquare Software applications based on an iSeries system is preferred. Working knowledge of current versions of Internet browsers and Microsoft Outlook is also highly recommended. Ability to learn specific computer applications used in the Building Department.

Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, push, pull and lift. Ability to walk on rough ground (sand, woods, overgrown areas) and work both indoors and outdoors.
