JOB SUMMARY:
Provides for the promotion and maintenance of health in the school community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Provides professional nursing services including nursing assessments, identification of health problems, development of student health care plans, referrals for diagnosis and treatment, recommendations for educational modifications, follow-ups and evaluations in accordance with District policy, professional standards of practice and health care provider orders. Assesses students referred for illness or injury and provide first aid for the purpose of attending to their immediate health care concerns and initiating follow-up care. Administers mandated screening (e.g. vision, dental, hearing, etc.), and makes referrals as needed for follow up care. Makes appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter. Maintains effective communication with administrators, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action to meet the health and safety needs of students. Dispenses medications and/or trains other school employees to dispense medications in accordance with established State laws and District procedures Manages school health records in accordance with district policy and procedure and state law; and assists in the preparation and submittal of reports for the Superintendent and State Agencies as needed. Initiates contacts with and acts as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community. Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health related issues. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Possess knowledge of health standards and hazards; safety practices and procedures; stages of child development; pediatric and family nursing practices; community health concepts; and pertinent policies, codes, regulations and/or laws. Possess skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including adhering to safety practices; administrating first aid; safely handling hazardous materials/waste; operating equipment used in clinical setting; operating standard office equipment and pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. Bilingual skills preferred. QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualified to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse in the State of Washington and hold an unrestricted license. Current First Aid/CPR Card. Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
