The post will be based at Denmark Hill. The post holder will have responsibility for managing the haemoglobinopathy, haematology and oncology service jointly with consultant colleagues and will have responsibility for monitoring the children who attend the day unit on a regular basis.This is a 3PA post with no On-Call commitment.All employees are expected to undertake work on any of the Trust’s sites as required by the service. As a senior employee of the Trust, you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust’s patients.Main duties of the job

Together with other colleagues, to provide a high quality care service to patients. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group, including outpatient clinical activity. It is expected that the postholder will be providing joint leadership of the adolescent service and also provide clinical leadership for the cytopaenia clinic.To take part in the paediatric haematology consultant of the week rota and ensure a daily paediatric haematology ward round for inpatients. This will include sharing responsibility of providing consultative haematology cover for the attending POSCU paediatrician with the other paediatric haematologists.Shared responsibility with other colleagues for providing 5 days a week cover for the haematology and oncology patients on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short-term sickness as detailed in your contract.Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.Person specification

Full Registration with GMCName on GMC Specialist registrar in general paediatrics Register on date of taking up appointmentOn the day of interview applicants must be within 6 months of CCT or must have fully completed CESR application and be fully registered on the GMC Specialist Register. Wide experience in all aspects of paediatric haematology, culminating in award of CCT or equivalent.Specialist training in paediatric haematologyExperience of haemoglobinopathies and paediatric haemato-oncologyAdministration

Experience in day-to-day organisation of general paediatric haematology servicesFamiliarity with information technology and general computer skillsFamiliar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changesManagement and Leadership

Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teamsPrevious experience of service development and managing change in the workplaceManagement course and/or qualificationAudit and Quality Improvement

Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.Audit PublicationsResearch and Publications
