Senior Amazon Dedicated Cloud Engineer, AWS Commerce Platform
Amazon, Seattle, Washington, us, 98127
Description
Would you like to implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve the world's most complex technical problems? Do you have a deep passion and desire to engineer and operate the world's largest cloud computing infrastructure to build a better world for future generations?
This is an exciting opportunity to use the latest cloud computing technologies to help U.S. Government agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems.
AWS established a specialized group of service teams responsible for the work we are doing with the U.S. Intelligence Community. We are building some of the largest and most complex distributed systems in the world, and we need adaptable people to help us implement and operate them.
The AWS Mercury ADC Operations team is seeking highly motivated engineers who are focused on operational excellence and troubleshooting complex system operations, have a good understanding of Linux, networking and general knowledge of cloud services. We need engineers who understand how to think big, and simplify solutions to complex problems; all the while ensuring that our customers continue to have the best experience possible.
You are able to lead a project, delivering on schedule even when the initial problem is not well defined. You identify when ADC implementations are not highly available, performant, secure, stable, instrumented, maintainable, or have defects. You identify long term or systemic risks and can create both short-term and long-term sustainable mitigations plans. You can evaluate trade-offs in decision making which consider complexity, two-way and one-way doors, and technical risk. You proactively drive preventative measures and resolve, mitigate, or escalate operational concerns in a timely manner. You have a breadth and depth of understanding in relevant industry standard technology areas, for example operating systems, hardware, software, security, or networking. You are an excellent diagnostician, able to drive the most challenging investigations for your team.
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
This position requires that the candidate selected must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance. The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph or commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.
Key job responsibilities
The AWS Mercury team is seeking highly motivated engineers who are focused on operational excellence and troubleshooting complex system operations, have a good understanding of Linux, networking and general knowledge of cloud services. We need engineers who understand how to think big, and simplify solutions to complex problems; all the while ensuring that our customers continue to have the best experience possible.
In this role, you will be able to take a defined project, break down the work to help define milestones, and feedback mechanisms. You identify when implementations are not highly available or have defects; you investigate systemic patterns. You resolve, mitigate, or escalate operational concerns in a timely manner.
The specific responsibilities for this role are:
Support on-call rotation
Identify and pursue opportunities for operational excellence and automation
Respond to and resolve customer issues
Resolve operational tickets
Support the execution of various campaigns (i.e., blocked software, host patching, etc)
Collaborate with developers to build Commerce Platform services in the ADC regions
A day in the life
On any given day, our engineers may dive deep into customer issues, service interdependencies and region specific configurations to find the root of a problem. Engineers spend time investigating why a metric or system variances is trending in the wrong direction, or discuss radical new approaches to automate operational processes. As a member of our team you will join a dedicated group of engineers who provide troubleshooting and operations support, and innovate to automate operational tasks.
