Who are we hiring?
The Director, Event Production is responsible for the successful advancement and completion of the assigned events at the Chicago Theatre. This person will act as the liaison between client and all venue departments, partners, and stakeholders to maximize operational efficiency through collaboration and communication.
Additionally, this position will be responsible for generating and maintaining operational budgets for the assigned event. The Director, Event Production will work with Union & a Non-Union labor workforce. The position exists within an environment that is a 24/7 operation due to the numerous daily and nightly events across live entertainment. The ability to successfully multi-task and collaborate in an energetic and time-sensitive environment is of the utmost importance.
What will you do?
Administer all event planning with the client and venue stakeholders throughout the entire event process for assigned events, from advancement to being on-site for load-in through load out.
Administer all event planning with the client and venue departments including, but not limited to, staging, lighting and sound, client seating, and client staffing requirements.
Generate and maintain budgets with timely updates throughout the event process through constant analysis and attention to detail. Track costs against budget for settlement with internal and external clients.
Support the administrative and management team located in Chicago while finding efficiencies and identifying best practices through policy and protocol guidelines.
Work with outside agencies to ensure work rules, jurisdictions, codes, and policies are maintained.
Understand and communicate with all parties the work rules for Union & Non-Union labor teams.
Schedule and direct union and non-union labor associated with the daily operation of events.
Troubleshoot event day issues and be highly responsive to emergencies in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
Oversee transition from day of event activities to the load out of all equipment for assigned events.
Evaluate quality of client and guest experience through observation and responding to feedback.
Collaborate with venue AGM throughout the show to ensure an exceptional client and guest experience.
As assigned as Executive on Duty (E.O.D.) - attend production, security and FOH meetings on day of event to ensure a holistic understanding of the client's expectations. Oversee ingress, run of show, egress and emergency situations to ensure that all standard operating procedures are being adhered to.
What do you need to succeed?
8-10 years working experience in Sports & Live Event Production Management with direct responsibility for supervising and directing staff across a wide range of operating functions in a changing environment.
Technical knowledge surrounding production specific items involving but not limited to rigging and engineering review, power provisions, industry standard safety protocols, Union regulations and processes specific to I.A.T.S.E, as well as I.B.E.W & Theatrical Teamsters.
Knowledge and understanding of general building codes & fire safety specific to each MSG venue.
Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks with both financial and operational implications across departments and venues in a deadline-oriented environment.
Experience supervising and working with Union & Non-Union Crews.
Experience creating and maintaining event budgets and preparing financial information for event settlements.
Strong organizational skills, time management skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to resolve conflicts in a time-sensitive manner.
Adept at maintaining a positive, open, approachable, and professional relationships with a diverse group.
Demonstrate integrity, tact, diplomacy, and a commitment to company values and principles.
Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
AutoCAD working knowledge with ability to produce renderings to further clarify on sale maps & seating diagrams in a time-sensitive environment.
Special Requirements
General physical requirement such as lifting 25lbs., standing for long periods, walking long distances, working in inclement conditions, lead and assist in evacuation of guests and staff, ability to walk up and traverse downstairs, bending and constant motion is often required.
Ability to travel as required to New York.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, have split days off, work weekends and holidays in a 24 X 7 environment.
