AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.Come join a highly innovative team dedicated to building the next generation of online payment systems that support payment products globally with a high bar for availability and security! In this role, you will be responsible for delivering some of our most strategic technical projects, delivering large scale systems, designing new software systems at the cutting edge of distributed storage and database technologies, and having a significant revenue growth and bottom-line impact on our business.As we build innovative payments solutions for our customers, the role provides an opportunity for developers to build a strong portfolio of patents for Amazon. The role will also include defining and implementing extensible, multi-faceted solutions that support global and region-specific payments protocols and workflows. This is a critical program, with high leadership visibility, and opportunity for delivering significant business value.We are looking for passionate, experienced software developers that can lead key tech work streams and deliver high quality software solutions to support a variety of customer use cases that are scalable to handle Amazon's volume.Developers in the team need a strong understanding of computer fundamentals and practical experience in building full-stack, large scale distributed systems. Experience with web-based applications and/or web services-based applications, especially at massive scale, is also helpful.Key Job Responsibilities

As a Software Development Engineer you will:Define, design, and implement multi-tier distributed software applications.Estimate engineering effort, plan implementation, and rollout system changes that meet requirements for functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, and adherence to development goals.Design, code, and test major features, as well as work jointly with other team members to deliver complex changes.Effectively collaborate in a fast-paced environment with multiple teams in a large organization (software development, QA, Project/Release Management, Build and Release, etc.).Provide on-call production support for payments services.About the Team

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems experience- Experience programming with at least one software programming language- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
