Carrier is a world leader in HVAC and Refrigeration solutions. For over a century, we have been developing innovative products and services that have changed the way people live and work. That drive for innovation continues today with a renewed focus on creating solutions that will change the world for the better. At Carrier, we see possibilities in everything.
About This Role
The Carrier financial planning and analysis (FP&A) department has an opening for the lead of the Digital Finance organization. This position will help lead Carrier and the digital team as we embark on advanced revenue streams with connected products. Revenue will be generated from product / service offering development as well as creating recurring revenue streams through monitoring and detection systems. This position will manage, analyze and assess the viability of programs along with the traditional role of managing over $500M of Digital spend that occurs around the globe via 130+ ERP systems.
Specifically, with new product development, this role will provide guidance to Carrier leadership (with dotted line report to SVP, Digital Carrier), on several aspects of each potential digital offering. The preferred candidate will have knowledge of digital applications in the space of indoor quality and safety, understand the upfront investments related to entering these spaces and will provide determination on whether the barriers to entry are too great to Carrier based on sound technical payback, ROIC and investment analysis. If the barriers to entry are too great, the ideal leader will work with Digital and the Business units on sound alternatives – potentially partnering with a JV or modifying an existing off the shelf product for consumption.
Key Responsibilities:
The Digital Finance leader will provide additional guidance on the following:
Sales recognition guidance – either at a top level or via a Carrier separate organization.
The Digital finance lead will work with CBS (Finance consolidated services) on collection and expense recognition
Within the business unit structure, the lead will work to review the transfer pricing model that meets tax and controller guidelines while ensuring maxim sales growth. Initial goals are to recognize $1B of revenue from newly introduced digital products over the next 5 years.
Ensure that Carrier is adequately accounting for costs related to digital and in the appropriate line items on the P&L.
Ensure that Digital is involved in the review of all new R&D developed programs with a digital component
As part of the new product development process, this leader of the Digital Finance organization will create project management oversite that will ensure programs are being delivered on-time and under-budget. If deviations occur, this manager will discuss appropriate next steps and actions with the team members. In addition, the finance lead will impart lessons learned from each product development to the next program to ensure rapid responses in an ever-changing digital environment.
On the standard reporting front, the digital finance organization needs to report and manage the total global spend on all Carrier information technology programs from Cyber security to hardware and software spend as well as projects. This includes but is not limited to:
Quarterly roll-ups of spend by various designated categories from around the globe.
Managing roughly $60m spend at the WHQ level and providing guidance on spend trends to the VP of Digital and VP of FP&A
Automating the above process in order to move from a reporting organization to a partnership relationship with the Digital teams.
Reporting progress to senior leadership and providing guidance on potential cost savings initiatives.
Working with leadership on consolidating spend via a Center of Excellence model or low-cost sourcing. Determining the best way to allocate these costs back to the local entities to ensure favorable tax reporting yet ease of reporting.
