This role is responsible for investigating, evaluating and resolving liability insurance claims. The role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze liability, damages, coverage and develop resolution strategies.
Responsibilities:
Investigate claims, develop and execute upon resolution strategies, which may include pursuit of risk transfer, mediation, and management of litigation.
Assess coverage obligations including analyzing policy language to recommend and prepare written coverage determinations. Partners with coverage counsel, as applicable.
Sets and manages timely and adequate reserves considering coverage, liability, and damages.
Manage and coordinate litigation by hiring defense counsel and required experts, review of draft pleadings, litigation plans, budgets, and invoices.
Document all contacts, communications, claim transactions, and otherwise maintain electronic claim files.
Ensures exceptional customer service by managing all aspects of the claim, interacting professionally and effectively with insureds, claimants and business partners.
Provides timely updates and responds promptly to inquiries and requests for information.
Moves claims to closure with a high degree of independence and proactive claim handling and by collaborating with internal and external business partners, as appropriate, to develop, own, and execute a claim resolution strategy.
Keeps leadership informed of significant risks and losses by projecting exposure and completing loss summaries and similar reporting.
Prepares and presents claim status and evaluation to leadership.
Maintains subject matter expertise and ensures compliance with state/local regulatory requirements.
Prepare reports to management, clients, and other designated recipients - strong writing skills required.
Represent the organization in mediations, court proceedings and other situations. Some travel may be required.
What will help you succeed in this role?
Juris Doctor Degree
Insurance License for a minimum of one of the following states: Florida, Texas, New York, or California.
Seven years of experience managing claims.
Expertise in claims resolution and knowledge of insurance and claims principles, practices and procedures.
Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication, and negotiation and presentation skills.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and to work with and maintain confidential and sensitive information.
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
Proven ability to take an initiative-taking long-term view of business goals and objectives to achieve strategic business results.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
