Orbis Operations is seeking an experienced Data Scientist with a focus on training, building, and implementing Large Language Models (LLMs) to join our innovative team. The successful candidate will work directly with government clients to leverage LLMs in mission-critical applications, driving impactful results through advanced natural language processing techniques. This role requires a candidate with deep expertise in developing and deploying LLMs within government environments, with a passion for cutting-edge data science and artificial intelligence technologies.

Key Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
Design, build, and implement Large Language Models (LLMs) to solve complex problems in government settings, ensuring alignment with mission objectives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, software developers, and government stakeholders, to understand requirements and develop tailored LLM solutions. Perform data preprocessing, cleaning, and transformation to support LLM training, ensuring data quality and relevance to specific government applications. Conduct model fine-tuning, optimization, and validation to ensure high performance, accuracy, and efficiency in real-world scenarios. Stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, and natural language processing technologies, incorporating them into current projects where applicable. Present findings, model performance, and actionable insights to technical and non-technical government stakeholders. Support the deployment and monitoring of LLMs in production environments, troubleshooting and iterating models as necessary. Mentor junior data scientists and provide guidance on best practices in machine learning, natural language processing, and AI ethics.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related field. PhD preferred. 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, with specific expertise in training and deploying Large Language Models (LLMs). Experience working with government agencies or within the public sector, understanding unique challenges and compliance requirements (e.g., data security, privacy, etc.). Proficiency in Python and machine learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) with demonstrated experience in developing LLMs. Strong knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) techniques, including transformer architectures such as GPT, BERT, or similar. Experience in handling large datasets and optimizing models for performance and scalability. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate mission requirements into AI-driven solutions. Preferred Qualifications:
U.S. Citizenship Experience working on government projects related to national security, defense, or intelligence. Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and tools for scaling machine learning models in production environments. Knowledge of AI ethics, responsible AI practices, and explainable AI methodologies. Current or previous Top Secret/SCI clearance is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Routine video conference and/or in-person meetings. Ability to attend planned meetings within the Washington Metro Area region.
