Primary Responsibilities

Market Sector Directors (MSD) are one part of the HDR matrix management structure that drive our business. The primary responsibilities of the Global Maritime Market Sector Director are divided into three areas:

Market leadership and business development (+/- 60%)

Staff development (20%)

Support to Operations (20%)

The Global Maritime Market Sector Director is responsible to support area business development and client management while at the same time defining and implementing key initiatives for growth, coordinating best practices and quality professional services, and projecting the HDR brand in the marketplace.

Business Development Responsibilities

Oversee the creation and implementation of strategic vision and direction for the market sector.

Serve as the Client Manager for selected key clients within the market sector.

Engage in selected projects as Principal-In-Charge.

Promote the marketing and delivery of all HDR services to clients within the market sector.

Participate as a member of the Transportation Business Group Management Team.

Work with Regional Business Group Directors on development and delivery of area goals and market sector initiatives.

Work with the client managers and business development leaders to drive client development and pursuit processes.

Support selected area and strategic pursuits through client relationship development.

Participate in industry associations at a leadership level.

Identify key investments that will maintain or drive HDR into industry leadership position.

Staff Development Responsibilities

Assume responsibility for Global Market Sector P&L in coordination with local area managers.

Work with business class directors to drive technical excellence.

Coordinate staffing/recruiting plans for key hires.

Participate in Annual Performance Conversations for key market sector leaders.

Support to Operations

The Market Sector Director will assist Regional Business Group Directors and area Business Group managers in the delivery of professional services for area projects within the market sector.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum 20 years of experience in planning/engineering in the global trade arena.

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering, planning or a related field.

Experienced in development and management of strategic marketing programs.

Experienced in development and management of client relationships.

Experienced in overall staff development.

Ability to work cooperatively with other Market Sector Directors and managers.

An understanding of port facilities and agencies across the US and abroad.

Demonstrated commitment to HDR values.

An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related field.

A minimum of 12 years industry experience including leadership.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong skills in client management and development.

Strong business skills; specifically handling budgets and operational issues.

Strong ability to analyze the marketplace and strategically position HDR.
